We picked up 20 of the little boogers a couple of weeks ago. I really like them too, not near as flighty as I thought they'd be, the bobwhites I had years ago were flightier than these guys (and gals I reckon). Ours are only about 4 weeks old and haven't started laying yet or getting aggressive and haven't heard any crowing. although I'm not sure what that sounds like from this type of bird, we have peacocks, turkeys (Narragansett) guineas, chickens (of course) and hear them all the time but these coturnix will be a new one. It'll be nice when they get going, thinking smoked quail should be real tasty

Also a Thanks You to KeithC for all of his info in the past ( I looked up the old threads on coturnix quail he posted) handy stuff to know, Thanks Again

Those are not quail. Walmart chinese knockoffs. Courtinex quail are far more efficient and there is no way american quail can compete. I will still stick with my wisconsin giants.

Slim chance of american quail released in the wild will make it. No chance of courtinex quail released will make it.
Was the largest breeder of flight conditioned bobwhite quail in the state for years. Conditioned flyers survival rate for American bobwhites is less than 10 percent. Cortenex quail is zero percent.

We plan on eating the eggs and also hatching them and raising them to butcher. I hope we like them. A lot of work to do all this then find out we don’t like the taste lol.

We got 6 eggs today! Happy with that since we only have 6 hens!

Used to be wild quail ( '60s) in New jersey and eastern Pa and even on Cap cod when I visited there in the '80s. But I have not even heard of quail in these areas since I have been back.......jk

They make dandy pickled eggs but are a pain to peel. Eggs are richer then chicken eggs but good flavor IMO.
