Hello all and thanks for allowing me to join! This is my first boarded beaver and I am hoping someone can tell me if it is dried enough to remove and how to tell. It seems dried but there is moisture of some type that is on the skin as if it came out of the hide during drying? Any advice would be great.

M.E. I f there is any tacky spots on the leather its not ready. In the first picture it looked as if there was some small spots of greasey spots that you could remove with a single handed scraper. A butter knife or spoon will work or eve a car ice scrapper. It will help to remove those areas to dry quicker and wont stay tacky as long. Its better to leave on the board longer if you have any concerns.

You probably just need to wipe the grease off and it will be fine. In any event here's a tutorial re putting up beaver which should be of help re putting up future beaver pelts: https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthr...oarding-tutorial-hvy-picture#Post4387401

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

you will see the fatty spots as it dries....typically 5-6 days will dry it....ifr you see fat spots then, clean up GENTLY.. then wipe off with a paper towel

Welcome to the site. Your first beaver put up looks better than mine did.

There’s a little grease on the pelt that could use a little more scraping. Gently scrape those areas and wipe off. It’s normal for a little oil to leach out of the leather too….wipe off a rag or paper towels.

I’d double up on the nails also.

ME welcome to Tman
Good job on your first beaver put up.
Trapper Les just put up a short clip on nailing down a hide, as a carpenter his rule of thumb between nails was a hammer handle, so maybe next time give er a try.
it is too late to put more nails in your pelt as it looks mostly dry and it will just ripe

Nails 1 inch apart is industry standard for beaver.
