I would reach out to Oikos Tree Crops nursery. They deal with a lot of the best edible acorn type oaks. I see that the nursery is closing and May 24th will be their last day in business so hurry if you want to do anything with them. I have some good edible acorn hybrid oaks I got from them back in the 80's. I'm very sorry to see them closing.

Always get trees from nurseries in/close to your area.

^^^That is generally pretty sound advice. These days many retail nurseries get their stuff from far away so it may not be like how things used to are back in the day. Oikos is a nursery that has specialized in oaks and trying to collect and breed superior specimens. They're in the upper midwest....Michigan I think.

If you get the chinquapin OAK, you will not be getting the chinquapin that is good to eat. It is in the white oak family and has huge, bitter acorns.

Chinkapin Nuts-sounds like a racial slur.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
