Ok gang,,, I’ve been trying to help a fella catch nuisance muskrats out of a pond,, I can’t locate the den entrances. They won’t work the floats I’ve put out,,, I tried pvc pipe sets,, and even pocket sets…. Nothing. They are there because I’ve seen them swimming. Any ideas??

Nope,, and that’s the odd Thing,, no scratching of the bank, no cuttings, no tracks in the mud… in fact,, if it hadn’t been for me seeing them,, I could tell the landowner the rats are no longer there.

If there are no dens to be found why are they a nuisance?

That is my question also-they dont sound like much of a nuisance if you cant locate any sign, lol.

They need to be finding a food source somewhere. I doubt that they are rooting only bulbs and carrying them to dens etc. I would look for any slight sign of a shallow run or somewhere where the bottom looks even slightly lighter. Depending upon how the pond was dug or designed the dens could start quite away out and in deep water and then go up. I would look the closest for any sign close to where you have seen them swimming on the surface. Does the pond have rock laid all around the edges? I have two like that and it makes it much harder. I would also think some toilet areas should be around as they are very territorial.

Set connies deep with apple, carrot and/or potato on the triggers right around where you have seen them swimming.

Their den entrances are probably deep. And they are probably on the dam unless the edges elsewhere are straight down.

But as others have already stated, they are crapping somewhere and they are eating roots of something. They are leaving sign somewhere.

theres old dens that have collapsed portions of the dam......not enough to breach it. although they show signs of inactivity
I did set some 110s in front of them towards the water side to stay legal ..

yes......theres concrete chunks thrown around to help prevent erosion........I belive that's were the den entrances are,,,up inside the concrete slabs.
