The earliest truck campers date to the mid-50s and appeared almost at the same time. They were the Cree Truck Coach built in Saline, Michigan by Howard Cree and the Sport King built by Walter King's company in Torrance, California. King built the first cab-over camper. The first Cree models were displayed at a sports-and travel show at Navy Pier in Chicago in 1945.

Interesting. Saline isn't too far from me and I didn't know that fact.

That is cool.

That would look totally cool restored. Hollywood would pay a huge buck to rent that for a film.

Makes me wish I wouldn't have sold my old '65 GMC Mannerette. Bought it for $800 in 2007 all original except had a newer roof ac unit. The wife didn't like it so I only used it for trips when she wasn't with. The guy who bought it from me was going to restore it, tore it completely apart, gave up and took it all to the scrap yard. Sad ending for an old camper in good condition.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Does anyone know what a small, silver colored (aluminum?) travel camper from the 60s would be called?

I was very fortunate to know John K. Hanson who built the first Winnebago travel trailer in his garage in Forest City Iowa. He built a motorhome empire and became very wealthy. My family was good friends with many of their family.

Boles Aeroe , they made an aluminum tear drop type camper, it may have been before 1960s.
