Got a few beaver sets out on the line close to town.Checked out a few spots a couple traps, and cut a couple nice standing dead spruce poles for drowners.
Took a few pics this afternoon.Couple big houses in one colony-Not trapping that one right now.

It looks like there ought to be some northern pike cruising around in some of those waters.

Eh...wot?

Brook trout in the creeks mostly but have caught the odd pike at spillway sets in spring.Always surprizes me where pike will get way up into headwaters in spring.
I fish the big rivers mostly when I do fish.

You're a lucky man Boco. Can't wait to get back up there in June to go fishing. Beautiful country.

Yes Lug,some of those beaver ponds look like lakes-and some do have hammer handle pike in them.
The terrain is fairly flat here, and a 3 or 4 foot beaver dam on a creek can flood a huge area.

Up in the lowlands closer to James Bay it is so flat ,a 4 inch high beaver dam can make a 2 mile diameter lake, no exaggeration.

Thanks for the explanation Boco, I would’ve never guessed at that.

Deep water pole stake for drowner wire.(foothold)
There is a picture of one, second picture-beaver pulled up from bottom of pole.
No need to haul around a ton of rebar,or a ton of drowning weights, lots of strong light poles everywhere in the bush here.
They are also used for deepwater tee pee sets for 330's.
No end of useful applications. Also great for snaring partridge out of trees if you dont have a shotgun handy.
They are very light and very strong and rigid.

Beautiful country you are in Boco. Thanks for sharing the drowning set up. I have read about using those but just never did. That must be an awesome place to live and trap.
thanks. Oh I bet the fishing is great too.

Going out shortly will snap a few more.
Gotta check out a couple more spots.Fur is holding up good,a couple Red Rims but fur is good only one with bites.
Season closes May 15,then the nuisance calls will start coming in.
