Okay, no one was speaking of moving any place. In my genealogy quest I have found that many of my families from southeast Ohio, moved to Iowa starting in the 1850s. Every time I see someone post on here from Iowa, I wonder if they might be related. Several of these families came from long line of hunters and trappers. I believe some of my inherent hunting & trapping desire come down to me from of these families.

Just out of curiosity, not knowing anything much about Iowa, I am going to throw out there some Iowa counties my kin went to, followed by a list of family names and see if some of my shirt-tail cousins are on here.

Here we go....

Gutherie County, Iowa
Polk County, Iowa
Grant County, Iowa Some place else
Benton County, Iowa
Delaware County, Iowa
Wayne Co., Iowa
Floyd County, Iowa

Family Names:

Hughs/Hughes
Wagoner/Wagner
Reed
Spencer
Keith
Wilson
Leahman

I know there are more families when you add the female cousin & aunts, but these are the major ones. I know some of them drifted up to South Dakota, and west into Nebraska and Kansas.
Most all of these families were farmers, but some member became involved in other trades down through the years.

I would like to hear from anyone that might be related, unless you are too embarrassed to recognize me as a cousin... Ah heck, I am not too bad a fellow, just old.

Just to maybe clarify your info a little - there is no Grant County in Iowa.

There is a Lehman that lives a couple miles north of me in Grant township, Boone County, Ia.

Lots of Hughes's in Lafayette County just East of Grant County, but then again Hughes is Irish for Smith or Jones.

I wrote a lengthy diatribe about the problems in genealogy about not wanting to use the words Township and County in a place and forgot to save it..

Thank you guys for pointing that error out to me... I changed it (somewhat). I will go back and change my records.

Garry, John Shutt 1783–1871 L2ZQ-Y, who is my 5th great grandfather died in Jasper, Iowa. Catharine Wideman 1785–1858 GW96-JWD was his wife. My 4th great grandmother, Malinda Strickland 1809 – 14 November 1883 K6HF-BCM married their son. She died in Reasnor, Jasper, Iowa.

There are a bunch more people listed as having lived in Iowa, that some women constantly prunes off our family tree as soon as other people put them back. I have pictures of them that show they were there.
