Great photos... that is beautiful country, this time of the year and the summer. Don't think I would like it in the winter. I like that black beaver.

Creeks have been running for about 10 days, but still lots of snow in the dark bush.
Still ice on the lakes, but it wont last long-they are calling for a few days of plus 26c.Rivers broke up 3 or 4 days ago.
The water is ice cold right now.

Boco, thanks for sharing. I enjoy seeing/hearing about how folks in other places do things.

Hey no problem, going out tomorrow will snap a few more.
I have 8 sets out at 4 different locations on Calder Creek(one drainage that intersects a couple concession roads)close to town.
13 beaver so far on 4 checks.

Pelts are still good since the water is still cold and they have just come out from under the ice.A few still had a surprising amount of fat.
3 out of 13 were RR this spring,so far probably since it was a longer winter than normal.
Only one out of 13 beaver had a bite.Only one XXL,with mostly LG and a couple each of LM.and M
i will keep trapping til the 15th,as long as the traps are picking up the odd beaver. I wont expand the line at all.Just keep the traps at the potential nuisance spots I am working right now,to mitigate problems so I dont have to kill them and toss them later in the summer.
The rest of the beaver that dont pose any potential nuisance issues,I will leave alone until later in the fall.

Snow is melting pretty good today, most of the unmaintained concession roads are opening up.

You're living the dream Boco. I'd love to take a trip up there to fish for brook trout someday. I'll bet there's good smallmouth bass too.

Bass are rare here Gene. The odd one is caught in the Mattagami river.
I think someone must have tossed some into the river since bass are not found in this area.
Loads of brook trout in every small coldwater stream.
The abundance of beaver provides perfect habitat for the brook trout.
