I shoot them out the front door when they won't stay out of my yard or garden. They are safe so far this year but it is still snowing and freezing.

Kind of cold for morels yet but soon. The snow is not leaving, you can't get away from the bottoms and private property yet to get to the bear. It was snowing at about 3500 feet today at noon. We tried to get above Priest Lake today and you aren't doing it yet without a snow machine. It has been a really cold April and first week of May. Jumper and Machias may have more info on conditions further south. Grass in the bottoms has really jumped but it is still winter up high. If you come up let me know maybe we could get together for a cup of coffee and I could give you the latest info. I am still pretty much grounded because of my knee so I haven't heard much news from my buddies. Did hear one of my coworkers kids caught a 13 pound channel cat out of the Pend Orielle river below Albeni Falls dam. The first catfish other then bullheads I have ever heard caught there.

I’ve only killed one turkey. Spotted it in a field on my way to go fishing and happened to have a tag and a shotgun with me. Wearing a bright red/grey sweater and blue jeans I was able to sneak to 30 yards and get my Tom.

I was spring beaver trapping before turkey season. Had an old row boat and when I rowed the oar locks made a racket. A tom gobbled in response. When I got to shore I called him within gun range by hitting a stick against a maple tree. Calling in a turkey is easy if you’ve got the right bird. Never used a blind, didn’t need to once I learned to not pull the gun up until he was in range and behind something that blocked his view. That and don’t over call.

I like being mobile here if a guy gets behind, under or backs into a opening in the cedars it’s as good as having a blind without the setup and takedown issues. Work the shadows or clear shooting lanes if you can to get a better view.

I'm a novice turkey hunter by some of you southern guys standards but I still manage to kill one here and there. I haven't got a clue as to what I'm doing calling but the birds will talk back to me. The last turkey I took was taken out of a blind. I set up just before daylight on the edge of a field and set my up decoys twenty yards out. I got him talking to me up in a cut and I heard goggling a he was closing the gap. I had a good feeling he'd be mine if I could get him to spot the decoy. He came out of a logging road into the field and headed straight toward the decoy, oblivious to the blind set up in plain view. Twenty gauge. Very cool Blind for me
