A Ruger 10/22 is as good as it gets…hands down. They’re tough as nails and cheap. I agree. My troops in Alaska got me one for my going away present back in 90. I can't even begin to count the number of critters that gun has killed over the past 32 years, and never a misfire.

I have many types of .22's shoot a crazy amount with grandkids. Ruger 10/22 is a fine fun gun, fun to modify. But when I'm hunting small game shooting rabbit and squirrel in the eyeballs, Marlins with the JM stamped barrel get used. My Ruger's are tough, reliable and look cool. I can pop off 500 rounds between cleanings. Marlins are far more fussy about cleaning. A day hunting may require 8 to 10 shots at most. Model 60 and model 25 being my two favorites. To the O/P Savage is also a very good simple platform. I have seen many cool variations as of late. I have 2 in my flock. The mags are plentiful and cheap. On another note, A while back I picked up a Heritage Rough Rider Rancher carbine rifle. It has 500 rounds through it. Never had to touch the sights out of the box. Much fun, just a bit loud.

I had a 10-22 for awhile now. Been a real good tool. It was made in the 70's according to the serial#. I bought it used in about 88-9. Still accurate. Not picky about ammo. Have to single shot 22 shorts but it isnt designed for them.

the only down side to the savages is the magazine, they are stamped sheet metal and spot welds the 10 rounder sticks out the bottom. there have been some complaints of them coming apart.
we have a Savage MKII-FVT accu-trigger it is the heavy barrel target gun and it does very well in that role a little heavy to tote around the woods but if hanging a white target and waiting for a horse fly to land on and shoot it off that is the tool for it. 10 round groups you can cover with a dime.
the 10/22 is 10 rounds flush in a very convenient package
if you just like bolt or plan to suppress the ruger all american 22 uses the 10/22 magazine in a bolt gun.
the savages bolts are very accurate the have a suppressor ready gun , as does Ruger.
one of the great things about the 10/22 is the aftermarket parts , absolutely everything in that rifle is replaceable and rebuild-able. not that they are at all prone to wear or breaking because they run for many tens of thousands of rounds . you just have no worry that one day the model will change and mags won't be available or that you break firing pin or extractor and there won't be options available.
10/22 mags disassemble you can clean and tighten the springs and re-assemble
if your looking at semi auto in savage I wouldn't the design is not as strong and mags are prone to over insertion and causing feeding issues when pressed on
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Yep cotton. i have other 22's also. For a toss in the pickup, hog butchering time, coon in the chicken coop rifle by the back door, 10-22 is a sure enough work horse.

10/22 Ruger is the only .22lr rifle you'd ever need. Had mine forever,,and got both my boys each their own when they got old enough.

I recently gave to my Michigan Granddaughter a Stainless-steel Ruger 10-22 w/SS scope. My statement was, "Every grand child should have at least a .22 rifle.
They will kill a lot of things that can provide you meat and protection as well.
She did well on shooting Mothers Day. Even her mother liked shooting it.

I’ve never had anything but trouble out of both of the 10/22s I own. They both have had trouble cycling straight out of the box. They aren’t what they used to be.
Never had a Henry let me down though. Love my Henrys

22 rifles, a man can almost never have enough of them. There have been several 10/22's through my cabinets, only one left. At present there is a Remington 121 Fieldmaster, a Winchester 69A Target, a Marlin 39, a Henry something or other, my youngest daughter's 10/22 compact, a Remington 514, a Savage 25 (?), and a Remington 541-S my go to shoot'em in the eye squirrel rifle.
The 121 was my fathers. I can sort of remember him buying it from G&R Tackle, Seneca St, Buffalo, NY. He traded in a Winchester 90. I was a little kid, about 5 I think. I'm almost 71 now and I wish I had that 90 now. The 39 is a great shooter but doesn't eject empties worth a crap. The Henry, meh, it is smooth as silk though. The 69 is on par with the 541 accuracy wise, just isn't scoped. It sports the factory peep sight. I have a couple factory magazines for it, one of which is for shorts only. It's my favorite trap line gun. I can't see the sights on the handguns well enough anymore for me to be comfortable for dispatch. All the others are solid guns, and they all get shot.

The Ruger American Rimfire is a pretty nice little bolt gun, for the price point. They come with a decent trigger, show good accuracy, and have the threaded barrel option on a few models.
