Pops asked me the other day if I've seen any .22mag rifles while out and about and i told him no and I'd keep an eye out. Said he'd like .22mag and I love the old man to death so figured I'd pick on up for a surprise if I could in the next few months. Any suggestions on what to look out for ? Dad's a little be different from me. Real no frills and crazy stuff kinda guy ( I know I wonder how he's my dad at times too grin. ). Think he's a j
Jack o Connor fan. So thing reliable with the option of tossing on a lil 3-9 on top. Think a bolt gun would be fine but think he'd get a kick out of leaves action possibly. Any way any suggestions on what to be on the look for used if not new ?
....or should I just get him a .17hmr and a few boxes of shells and tell him to get over it ? grin laugh

It is tough to beat a Marlin 25MN or a Mossberg Chuckster. I have been looking for a Mossberg for quite a while.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Gonna watch this thread, Wolfie. I'm an old guy myself and have always wanted a .22 mag. Not even sure why. I already have lots of guns for lots of purposes but the .22 mag rifle is still a hole to be filled.

I own a couple 22mags,one chiappa over and under-22mag over 410- a break action folder, its my carry gun on the trapline.
I recently bought a 22 mag semi auto CZ-real accurate gun.Put a scope on it.
Also I own a ruger model 96,carried that gun for years on the trapline and shot a lot of fox and beaver with it.A 96 22mag is hard to find nowadays, and cost a lot if you find one.
22mag is a great caliber.

for new production Ruger all American rimfire 22wmr would be nice https://ruger.com/products/americanRimfireCompact/specSheets/8323.html
9 round mags flush and toss a 2-7 vortex with scope caps on . ruger's stocks come with the nice cheek riser
handy package at 35.75 inches

Savage has an interesting one https://www.savagearms.com/content?p=firearms&a=product_summary&s=91936
the minimalist toss a 2-7 vortex on it with some flip up scope caps , a sling and put an A2 bird cage on the threaded muzzle so that when it rides around muzzle down on the truck floor it protects the muzzle perfect for press contact dispatch shots

compact little package 37 inches overall it would be 38 with an A2 birdcage

The Ruger 77/22Magnum is a Sweet Gun. But they have gotten Very $$$$$$. Guns are a good investment and fun also.

If he is fixated on a 22mag, buy him one. No need to stir up the hornet nest even talking about the 17hmr.
I shoot a 17 HMR a lot and feel guilty for never pulling out my 22mag out of the safe. I know she misses me.
As far as which 22mag to buy, I'd say buy whatever you can find in your price range. I have yet to hear anyone complain about how any of them shoot.

Marlin bolt action 22mag with a 3-9 scope on top is something I won't be caught without

Gotta live up to the nickname...

These cheap savages have a rail for the scope mount and a short-threaded barrel and shoot very well and they also have a crisp trigger.

the Marlin and Mossberg 22wrm are no longer made

I bet I can count the number of used Marlin 22mags I have seen in used racks people tend to buy them like them and use them.

apparently they do happen , I just don't see it around here https://www.gunbroker.com/item/932067507 be interesting to see what this one sells for.

I have a CZ 452 American in 22 mag. Extremely accurate and well made.
They are pretty pricy now, looks like 700 bucks or so.
I had the trigger worked on and that made a big difference.
1/2" groups at 50 yards with most ammo.

I bought a Marlin 782 new around 1980 and that gun has been flawless with hundreds of rounds thru it.

I'd be looking at Marlins for any .22 actually. Good, accurate guns!

Looking for a CZ semiautomatic 22mag myself. nothing bad I can say about the caliber, especially after stumbling onto the ammo deal of the century a few weeks ago.

I really like my Ruger 1022M, but they are scarcer than hen’s teeth these days.
