I was very lucky to spend time with Charlie. We were set up across from each other at a Minnesota convention. During slow times we would talk, and of all things Trapping beaver. At another convention I was struggling to set up a new tent,Charlie came over to give me a hand. At another convention,I set up outside under my canopy ,This was after Charlies surgery and he didn't set up a booth at the convention. He asked if he could join me for the day in my booth. It was a great day. The weather and my company were as good as you could get. The last time I saw Charlie,I said that I would catch up with him at the upcoming Missouri convention. That meeting was never to be,Charlie passed away just before the convention. What a wonderful man he was.I miss him,but am thankful for the times we shared together. Tom

He was a great friend and great mentor for many years. When I was a young man he taught me a tremendous amount about trap modification, animals, and trapping. On a beautiful late summer day he made time to go on my trapline to educate me about animal movement, set locations, and specific sets. At the time, I knew that day was extremely special. I truly appreciated his expertise and wisdom. I most appreciated that he was willing to invest his time and effort in me. And as the decades have passed, I have helped young trappers as he taught me. Thank you Mr. Dobbins!

He and Jim Helfrich spent the night at my house. They came down to give a demo at our district rendezvous. I have a news paper picture of Mr Charles and me talking trapping at some NTA convention.

Gold without glitter is how I think of Mr. Dobbins based on the few conversations we had.

Never met the man but I feel I owe him a big thank you.
Not only for his son who gives us this site but for evidently setting the example of sharing his knowledge which has made us all so much the better for it. Same here

He wrote the most entertaining stories in the Old Trapper magazines back in the '80s and '90s he would write about his camping and trapping experiences. I read most of his books and learn a great deal. Thank you to him and Paul for this great forum.

Yep, I always enjoyed his articles he wrote in various magazines. I met him on several occasions at Pennsylvania Trappers Association conventions.

I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.
