I have a few of the FB1 traps. Overall, I like them okay. They’re a breeze to set compared to other designs, but I don’t really care for the way the chain attaches. I prefer the sharp spike found on other designs. Just preference.

That flat spade vs a spike does look to be harder to stick in the ground.

If I were to use them I'd would look at making some sort of dibble to poke a hole that would fit.

Good traps that are simple but work. I think you can get them with a ring trigger if you want.

I have the fb1 fb2 and coon daggers. The daggers are my favorite. The fb1 are a dream to set but after a coon catch a always have to make some kind of adjustment to make. I like the push/pull triggers.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the FB1s. Like others have stated, I always seem to have to tinker with the trap after a catch. They are a breeze to set compared to other dogproofs, but I rarely have to adjust any of my dukes or z traps after a catch. More than once I’ve been running my coon line on limited time, and it was a real pain to take the extra time to adjust them and keep them set. I also noticed that occasionally I’d get a really muddy or wet raccoon, and the mud gunked up the trap and they wouldn’t stay set. To be fair, I don’t have a ton of experience with them, and have only used them for a couple seasons.

the fb1 dog proofs are easier to set no doubt, resetting after a catch is not good at all . plate on the bottom is a catchall for mud.

I have a bunch of original lil grizz traps. Strong as can be. The stabilizer is ok. I also bought a bunch of the pcs featherweight traps. They are my favorite. No treatment, a spike stabilizer, and very lightweight trap that has a strong spring. I’ll get more of them if I buy more.

Thanks for that Wolfer. I hadn't realized that he had passed. I had good dealings with him, and he made some great products for trappers.

I bought 3 dozen coon shackles last year and they worked great if I was buying new traps they would be it. Last I ordered they were 108 a dozen shipped to your door with free setters.

I've heard that you have less grinner catches with the pull only triggers.

Dear Lawd, I’d hate to see my possum catches with a push/pull then, lol.

I use the bridgers and have had good luck with them. They are a pull type with a ring trigger.

And yes you can still catch a grinner in a pull only type trap.

I have a few a few z traps but have never used them.

The PCS Feather Light dog proof traps are by far the best for me. Pull only, aluminum body with all stainless components, and a good chain with swivels.

I sold all the FB1's that I had. Like many others have already said, I grew tired of tinkering with them all the time. I bought some of Kendall's No BS dog proofs to try this year. Like all his other traps, these look to be built like a tank too.
