Great for a contest next winter, biggest castors instead of largest tail.

Haven't seen castor like any of those pictured in years. The last few years including this spring the castor have been running really light with not much in them. Don't really understand why.

They call their beaver John Holmes beaver.

WOW! Is that one you caught or bought? I’ve never come remotely close to such a size! The biggest I’ve ever caught was about 12 ounces wet.

Bought that pair from Winston Marshall. He's in Virginia.

Paul, those look like they're hard on the inside, ie: barkstone?

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

In your opinion is the quality of mineralized castor as good as regular for your purposes?

Hard as mineralized or hard as packed tight? Now I’m getting a little worried about myself.

The ones I pictured are hard but still a little pliable at the same time.

At first we wondered if someone had stuffed them with something but there are no signs of that and the shells themselves are huge so it hasn't been manipulated that we can tell

So Cathryn, you are confirming that size does matter?

Hey! We're trying to have a serious beaver conversation. Sheesh! grin

Here's another beaver shot:

Do you reckon maybe this ol' boy had some size that mattered?

He looks full of it. For sure. Same as most men I know. smile

Seriously though. We didn't know if castor would be bigger on through the ice caught beaver?

I wasn't expecting to see a huge set from VA and then someone saying they have heard or seen are castor in NC.

Had a few this season that weighed half a pound after five days of drying. Very few decent size castors come out of the beavers around here this season seemed to be a better one. [Linked Image]
