I know prices are low, but will you still try for some extra pocket money this coming season?

Not sure if serious. If I set any traps it will probably be because I want to catch something to eat.

Inflation has caused me to raise the price of tanned fur and fur articles. And trap less of some species for the raw fur market.
With costs going up you have no choice but to raise your price to the consumer.

Boco - Oh no, the price is increasing on wifey’s beaver slippers!
I better send you moola or some shares of stock in the USA.

I still plan to make a big trip up your way this summer.

I will only trap on the farm especially if I can't find someone to put up fur so I can send it off. Funny no mone in trapping and a guy could make more putting up my fur than selling his own put up fur but no takers.

Takes the fun out of it to toss skined furs in the ditch to get freezer space. I runed a few trying to get them put up and it's not enjoyable to do with limited time. So if I trap they will just end up on a ditch so other than predator reduction there is little point or enjoyment when it's going to wast.

If your trapping to sell into the fur market, cost of production is higher than the price of fur. if you set more traps you will lose even more money.

which in turn will make some consumers step back and reconsider, especially a fur garment that most would consider a luxury item.

I raised my prices last year, havent seen a difference in sales volume at all,if anything it picked up a fair bit this year,so far, especially beaver and ermine.

No shortage of money around, all the young people working big paying jobs with all the gold mines operating and new ones being developed.
people are paying more for everything-they understand the deal.
The people who buy fur here are not buying for fashon. They buy for cold weather winter use.

Here in KS come winter most people go from their house to their remote started car after it warms up, to the heated store or whatever, then back to their warm car. Nobody wears fur. At all. Trapping for money in the lower 48 today is animal damage control and then repair/exclusion work.

I have heard they are talking fuel will double by mid August. So it might be a bad year for a long line with cheap fur.

If gas doubles there will be an extremely short catch of fur. Don’t know if that’ll even matter based on current demand. I’ll still trap but more floating, wading and walking and an understood smaller catch going in.

LOL. Not unless I buy a mule (the kind that eats grass) to check them with because I sure can't afford to use gas.

Nope won't do anything different than I do now. With me it is more of a time issue with a full time job.

Already have 3 predator control jobs lined up for January and February 2023. 3500 acre, 1500 acre, and 1000 acre plantations.

Also, the beaver calls never stop.....
