Lake St Clair, this time of year.

100 plus bites per day. Lots of fish in the 4-5 pound range with some 6 plus.

My Uncle Smoke prowled the Susky.
Green and white/tan 79 Bronco, little flat bottom boat.
He called grey fox in Hyner Run area in winter.
RIP.
Erie is best smallie action I've seen.

What do you fertilize the garden with if you don't use Bass?

I have nothing clever to put here.

Around my area, the best smallmouth fishing I've seen is on Lake Sakakawea or Lake Audubon. Just tie on your best walleye rig and you're sure to catch all the smallies you could want!

Basswood lake in the BWCA, first week in June, hundred a day is very possible.
Second would be St. Clair, there are some monster smallies in that lake and lots of quality fish in both lakes.

Eastern Lake Ontario/Saint Lawrence River

Most of those pro bass tournaments launch
in the St. Lawrence and motor down to
Lake Ontario to catch their fish.

Since the arrival of the invasive Round Goby
baitfish from Lake Erie, the size of Lake Ontario
smallmouth bass has ballooned as they fatten up
on the endless schools of gobies.

The best small mouth fishing for size and quantity of that size is on the St Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. You can catch lots of big ones. Fished a college derb there and our best 5 went something like 22 pounds. We caught 20 pounds the next day for a 2 day total of 42 pounds. We came in 80 something place

That place is on my bucket list .
St lawerence river #1
Lake St Claire #2
Mlf had an event there that aired 3 weeks ago . Took 109 lbs to make the 8th place cut. That's in 7.5 hrs of fishing.around 130 lbs of fish won. They weigh each fish and add it to the total per fisherman.

I fished Mille Lacs for smallies about this time last year and even though weather was not conducive, I still caught fair to good numbers of big smallies. In two days of tough fishing I still managed to catch, and release, about 15 fish that were 3-1/2 pounds on up to over 5 pounds. And there are definitely bigger fish there too.

Talked to a friend yesterday about this very topic. He said he has been going to Lake Namakan in Voyageurs National Park for over 20 years for the best smallmouth fishing in the world.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

St Lawrence is cool cause you can go catch 6 pound largemouth on a frog too. Another one that amazed me at the number of fish, both brown and green, was Leech lake in MN. We stopped there for a couple hours on the way home from Bemidji and caught 20 pounds for out best 5 without even cranking up the big motor

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I find it amusing when people say things like that. I have fished Namakan quite a bit and it wouldn't be in the top 100 smallmouth fisheries, for size or numbers, but he likes it there so it's the best for him. If he tried some other places he would realize it's not really that great but I don't blame him for going back over and over, it's a beautiful place with enough fish to keep you happy.

You hit on it there Bernie. Such beautiful country adding to the trip.
There are beauties aplenty from the Angle thru the maze of islands to Kenora. Anywhere east of there along the English river system to the Rat and beyond. Endless beautiful lakes with super smallmouth.
Two years ago I had a client catch a couple quite a ways north east of Little Grand Rapids MB over on the Ontario side. That’s what 250 miles north of the border we were? Crazy the range they are in.
