Will be quite awhile yet. Probably 3rd week in June.

No doubt there’s left over coyotes in there, and quite a few but there’s a pretty fair amount of fresh skins (other critters than coyotes) that sold 100% last go around. No doubt they’ve got their hands full after just posting a couple job openings recently as well.

A Lynx is a Canadian Lynx. Black all the way around the tip of the tail, really big feet, extra long ear tufts.

A Lynx cat is a fur trade name for the North American bobcat. Black only on the top of the tail, normal size feet, short ear tufts.

Latin name for Canadian Lynx is Lynx Lynx.

Latin name for Bobcat is Lynx Rufus.

I thought lynx cat was more a grade. Only bobcats with select fur, white bellies, are in the "lynx cat" pile. The rest are bobcats.

That’s the way is started out back in the late 70s and early 80s. Lynxcats were the nice pale heavy western bobcats. The eastern and southern bobcats were still bobcats.

At some point, not sure what year, it got too confusing to have Lynx, lynxcats and bobcats. So all bobcats became lynxcats. Which cleared up part of the confusion. Some confusion remains today between Lynx and lynxcats.

Additionally, when doing CITES paperwork to get the pelts across the border and back again, USFW needed some sort of standardization - all bobcats or all lynxcats. Not both.

It is because of Lynx lynx of all the cites tags and paper work since this on so many European countries threatened list

as for 95k coyotes, when 20k westerns did not sell in the first auction at expected levels of last year prices = hope it does not back fire
or the worst fire sale for western trappers may happen

At that time, Lynx pelts were valuable than bobcat pelts plus, Lynx sounded more exotic and prestigious.

By calling bobcats lynxcats it was a marketing plan to make them sound more exotic and increase the value.. Bobcat was so ordinary and considered to be a pest and predator.

200K of rats, we will see if there is a market for those. Last year in July my better rats averaged 5.93 b4 commission. I am very doubtful for those prices this June.

Interesting. I am somewhat surprised at the lower number of fox especially the grays.
