Was at my friend's sisters' place doctoring on some dogs last night and they had found more of there dads gun stuff they wanted me to have. As I was putting it in the car I just asked who was getting his .270 and apparently my friends not getting any guns till she gets a gun safe. Mentioned it was a shame for a gun like that not to be shot. She nodded and then asked if I'd like to take it and hold on to it for her sister. Said since I have all his other reloading and gun stuff seemed right. So yeah now I have this.

It's , a nice gun, very nice. I don't think I'm going to do much too it at all. Maybe just put it back in the the wood stock mabye a glass bed it add a extra swivel stud for a bipod , leather cheek rest, but that's it. It's not a target rifle. Never was I'm not going try and make it into one. No crazy paint jobs or mods...... Just make it accurate and functional, I think Mr.Mike would have liked that. Gonna see about making some low recoil stuff round for his daughter get her shooting it. Still have all of his load data and dummy rounds so might splurge and try and recreate everything... Load it all with his press his dies

I swear I still have alot of regret for not trying to talk to the man more. Only guy I know around here who was that into reloading but ....idk. Hopefully he'll be watching as I do this, hope it makes him happy.
Anyhow anything I should know about these Vanguard? Dos and don'ts ?

Wolfie,
If it was me, I'd skim coat the synthetic stock for bedding and not do anything with the original stock.

I have had this one a loooong time. Killed all kinds of stuff with it. They are sold as MOA or less. I glass bedded mine. Its less. 130 grain Sierra boat tail with 55 grains of IMR 4350 .

Nothing in this world as a Weatherby.

I just have the 300 Mag, MV. Not the Vanguard.

They all are first class firearms.

The Weatherby Vanguard is really the Howa 1500. I have one in 243 and it is a tack driver. Personally I wouldn't mess with it at all. Just shoot it

But a good scope on it and shoot that thing.

I listened to White17 and bought one in .30-06 in 2015, the same wood stocked model (because I'm old and I like wood and blued steel). They are guaranteed to shoot 3 in a MOA at 100 yds with quality ammo. With some load development they will do quite a bit better.

Not a Weatherby, but a Howa 1500 in 308. This 5 shot group was my first attempt at load development using 150 grain Hornady Interlock flat base bullet and Varget......not sure I need to go further.

I'd suggest you do the same. Load em and shoot it. See what you got.

This is what I am talking about. .004 off the lands, Sierra 180 gr Gamekings. 5 shots, 100 yds. The rifle will do it's part, no doubt. Shoots very well with 165 gr GKs but loves the 180s.

I have an old Vanguard Deluxe in 7 mag. It has a control round Mauser style bolt. I got in the late 70s and it was lightly used then. A left handed person bought it. He was right handed. Traded it back to the dealer for two lever rifles. Ben a good rifle although I haven’t fired it in about 20 years. Only control round Vanguard I have seen. Made in Japan.

I won a prestigious award for my work and I used all the money that came with it to by a custom fitted Mark V Deluxe Weatherby in .270 WIN. https://weatherby.com/store/mark-v-deluxe/

It is the most comfortable shooting most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

I’ve got a weatherby vanguard .270, it is hands down my favorite center fire rifle. I’ve killed dozens of deer with it, shoots like a dream. When I could afford to shoot a lot I could hit a nickel at 100 yards dang near every shot shooting prone on a bipod. When I head to the field and I want a gun that I KNOW I can depend on I grab the vanguard.
