It appears to be a type of dovetail joint. For more information dovetail joints see- https://www.dcdrawers.com/blog/what-is-a-dovetail-joint-types/#5

I've never seen a log or timber dovetail joint cut that ornate.
Something tells me that was made by some old Swede or Finlander.

That is amazing. I love making dovetails but those are over the top. I imagine it is possible to make the joints structurally sound and cut those as an accent.... but nonetheless they are great.

Beautiful workmanship! Looks a lot like some of the Japanese jointry I've seen.

I looked at that for a while. Thought I had it figured out, and was close. It is a Scandinavian type joint also Slovenia.

Here is more on it. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...thread/Board/21/main/1031186/type/thread

Still don't know what it is called though....Except a whole lot of work!!!

Being the logs are so smooth and no gaps for clinking, I'm going with made on a modern cnc mill, with steel rodsscrews holding them together. I saw some similar at a lumber jack log show a vendor was selling kits for in French Lick several years back. He had several profiles to chose from. Some that looked hand hewn, different size groved milled for fill to look like clinking. Different dove tails ect..

I can hardly cut 2x4s straight enough to match up. Don’t think I’ll be attempting that anytime soon
