Until I heard about the exploits from this spring of a retired dude from Georgia. I met this guy a few years ago while I was down there chasing turkeys. They told me what a passionate turkey hunter he was, but I didn’t realize just how passionate until now lol. I don’t have full details on every state that he hunted this spring, but here’s what I know: He started in Florida in early March and ended with a New Hampshire/Vermont hunt a few days ago. I know he also hunted MT, WY, GA, VA, WV, and AL. He hunted several other states as well. He drove slightly over 21,000 miles. He shot 41 TSS shells. He killed 42 gobblers. He lost 20 pounds. He walked 632 miles. I’d bet nearly all of these turkeys were killed on public land. He sleeps in his truck and finds somewhere to shower as the need arises lol.
A few years ago this guy was chasing a gobbler in the mountains of West Virginia. He had followed this turkey all afternoon. When the turkey flew up to roost he was miles from the truck, so he slept under that turkey and killed him when he flew down the next morning.
That my fellow turkey fanatics is the definition of a passionate turkey hunter!!!!

Wildman out Killin turkey's that's way cool. He retired from Ga DNR a couple years back. He was the kind of game warden that a poacher didnt want on his trail. Quick story: he was on to a turkey poacher that was baiting them in his yard and shooting from his back porch. He was off one weekend and I asked if he wanted me to continue the surveillance. He said that I couldn't get in there close enough to watch the area. I said sure I can. He said OK, but you can barely touch the bottom of the creek you have to cross to get into position to see the house. May have to swim a few yds... Uh...he (not me) caught the guy shooting a gobbler from the porch the following Tuesday morning.

I enjoy turkey hunting and do some traveling for that purpose but what he is doing is a little extreme IMO. But if that is his thing, more power to him! I will go a lot slower and smaller scale and take time to enjoy and savor the experience. YMMV

He must really like eating turkey meat. How does he process all the meat on the road?

So what do you call baiting them having a few bird feeders out. Must be more to it because it seems pretty low class of a move to bother him to me.

Hope he had a gun case with him when he overnighted in the WV woods. It is illegal to have an uncared firearm in the woods after 1:00 pm during spring gobbler season. I believe he was either in NC or NE GA when this occurred.

Cracked corn put out just for turkey bait. We learned of it from a complaint. Not legal in Georgia to hunt turkeys over bait. Location was checked (at night), then watched for several days. Guy finally did what complaintant said he was doing. Just good game warden work.

He just happened to see turkeys in the yard during season and shot them. The guy sounds like a dedicated game warden. But I still wouldn't mess with a guy in his back yard. Must be a slow time of year. I can see busting the same thing on public ground, or the guy shooting over his limit, spotlighting deer and cutting the racks off. But some things I would use discretion on. Now maybe the guy was a big time known violator and this was a good chance to bust him. Something like that I can understand.

You might own the land if you are making your tax payments, but all the people own the wildlife. I know not about turkeys but there must be a sound reason pertaining to their conservation for not allowing hunting over bait.

I know not about turkeys but there must be a sound reason pertaining to their conservation for not allowing hunting over bait. Funny the people don't want to pay to fix the damage to my vehicles when deer or turkey hit them. They don't want to pay for my fence the deer tore up or the damage to my garden from them or coon. They don't like hunting over bait because the public does not see it as sporting. Not for management reasons. Infact the dnr will bait areas to bring in ducks so they can be netted and banded. I don't care one way or the other on bait. But think It's a dick move to mess with a guy in his back yard. Unless like I said he was on the wanted offenders list and it was their way to finally catch him. And that would be my guess in this case. Either way the game warden sounds dedicated.

Must be agressive animals down there attacking your vehicles. Not aggressive just wanting to end it all. I never under stood I can till and spreed out sun flower seeds and grow a nice plot for a dove field( did this last week) so the doves come eat the seed off the ground that fall off the plant. And that's not baiting. But I better not spread the same seed during dove season that's baiting. Only difference is more time and planning. Same with any food plot. It s almost like Democrat logic. O well I hope the sunflowers bloom during the Darth and my bees like them. Hope to get 4 for 1 out of it. 1. Bee food 2. Dove field 3. Wife likes flowers and sells cut flowers 4. If it works well may be a nice addition for photographers to come out and shoot pictures. Withe the flowers, at my 1830s log cabin, on the tractors, ect. More business opportunities potental. Or maybe the deer and birds will get them before they come up. I was not sure if 1/3acre was a big enough patch. Put out about 60lb of seed.

Didnt take long for this thread to make a anti-game law turn.
I should have never mentioned he was a game warden. I'll never learn...

I believe he was either in NC or NE GA when this occurred. can you disassemble your gun ? in WI when we used to have case laws you could take your gun apart many a time we would get a ride and just take 5 seconds to pop the barrel off the 870 then get in the truck no case laws since 2011 long guns need to be unloaded in vehicles we do have no over night parking so you can get a parking ticket in many places

Glad he is able to pursue his passion. Wonder what the fine cost him for 2 birds with one shot (41 shots 42 birds.) I don't know of a state (but didn't look at every state) that allows more than one bird per day. ? He must of hunted a lot more states . Ones you got listed most have a 1 bird limit for the spring. Va is 2 Alabama is 3. BUT NONE allow more than one bird per day ..... No doubt he is a turkey hunting machine but sounds like the tale gets bigger each time it's passed on ........

I believe he was either in NC or NE GA when this occurred. See once parts of the story are questioned it changes states. LOL just common for it to grow. But 2 birds one shot is illegal in the states you mentioned. that's a lot of birds in 53 days. Adding in the driving time....... If heaveraged 60 MPH and didn't stop that's 15 days of driving. ?? so when did he hunt? LOL IF he drove 8 hrs per day that's 43 days to drive 21,000 miles. This story just get more unbelievable !!! Got to call BS on some of this

MT for instance, that I know he hunted. I hunted there as well this year. I check Mt regs Way I read it yes more than one bird but NOT more than 1 in possession coming to and from the truck. Think they have blocks/regions you buy separate tags for. So if you changed blocks you could kill another one the same day . https://fwp.mt.gov/binaries/content/assets/fwp/hunt/regulations/2022/2022-upgbrd-final-web.pdfPossession Limit while in the Field (CR) - No person shall possess more than one daily bag limit while in the field, or while returning from the field to one’s vehicle, hunting camp, home, etc. Possession Limit (CR) - The number of birds that may be possessed at any time in any form: fresh, stored in freeze

in WI they sell bonus tags fill as many as you purchase
I so wonder about 21K miles maybe got an extra 0 a the end 2100 would still be a good trip with time to walk 632 miles
or he included all his scouting miles over the year
he could have also used 1 of a different shell and just not said it
a friend of mine got his first turkey with a ball peen hammer he started tracking a wounded one when he saw it crossing the road to his brothers farm went out and caught it by hand had a turkey tag for that week so he registered it and ate it
even if some of the numbers are wrong it is a good story

I enjoy turkey hunting and do some traveling for that purpose but what he is doing is a little extreme IMO. But if that is his thing, more power to him! I will go a lot slower and smaller scale and take time to enjoy and savor the experience. YMMV Dont be a hater QBD!!! Not hating at all, just not my style Swamp Wolf. A lot of jumping to conclusions on this thread without having the facts or an understanding of regulations in lots of states also.

If you have a a statewide tag and a region tag you can fill them on the same day. I did that very thing 11 days ago.

PF,
Bird seed aint turkey bait, cracked corn is put out for the deer, my land = my game, a lot of sunflower seed should be OK...
...I've spent nearly 30 years trying to explain fair chase and the North American model of wildlife conservation to people in southern Georgia.
Maybe you Indiana hunters/fishermen/trappers are more understanding.

Clay, Im about to get on tractor too and head down to disk the chufa plot to hopefully get some volunteer regrowth. Looks like getting chufa seed is gonna be a problem this time. Had a bag ordered but they're a no-go, so far.

Yep you’re right. It never happened. Disregard. It’s an impossible task. I’ve learned my lesson. not saying it never happened , the one number is a little questionable and if it is all solid then even more amazing had a guy type he split 1500 cord of wood a year one time , he really meant 150 cord but hit an extra zero when it was pointed out he realized he was an extra zero 150 cord a year is still a lot my point was it is an amazing feat either way and a good inspiring story for people to chase their dreams of chasing birds

Just bought 52 gallons of farm diesel. $255.50 This is ridiculous. I cant afford fertilizer for the food plots. And getting the seed needed looks to be a challenge.

can you disassemble your gun ?
in WI when we used to have case laws you could take your gun apart many a time we would get a ride and just take 5 seconds to pop the barrel off the 870 then get in the truck
no case laws since 2011 long guns need to be unloaded in vehicles
we do have no over night parking so you can get a parking ticket in many places
I'm not sure. Regulation just says no uncased guns after 1pm during spring gobbler season. Would probably be easier to carry a gun case than a gun broken into multiple pieces.
