Gonna give it shot. What do you prefer, sit in or sit on top?

I have the sit-on version. Just a little easier to get in and out of.

Sit on top is my preference. I'm sure everyone has an opinion on this issue.

I had a sit-inside, but would have preferred a sit on top. I just had the sit inside because it was cheap. Now I've upgraded to a canoe.

For fishing and trapping, I much, much rather have a sit on top kayak.

The only time I would consider getting a sit in would be if it were a dedicated water traveling kayak, and even that would be a maybe.

Sit on top.

I have an Old Town Sportsman PDL 106, love it. It's a fishing machine

I use the sit on tops. The nice ones used to be very expensive but there are a lot more reasonably priced options now.

If you're looking for one, used kayaks sell very cheaply on small online auctions, often under $50.00 even for kayaks that sold new for over $1000.00

Unless you plan to fish in whitewater rivers, sit-ins aren't setup for fishing most places unless you only want to paddle. Sit on tops are extremely stable with a few exceptions and they can all take a trolling motor if you want to add one later.

People get bored with them quick and wind up practically giving them away. I ordered mine and paid over a grand for it more than twenty years ago. I hunt and fish out of it and like the enclosed cockpit for staying dry while paddling and protection from rainy autumn weather. You do get numb buttocks when sitting for extended periods while fishing.

I bet that thing is fast like a dat in the water. Mine is stable enough to stand on but as stable as the trihull design is I give up a lot of speed

I have 3 sit in. Bout them used from friends for the family. They work but for nice weather fishing and summer fun I like sit on tops better. Plus if you get one with a raised seat like the nu canoe you are above the water and I prefer being higher for fishing.

He is right, the green one is my first high seat and it really helps to transition to a standing position as well as just seeing fish or structures better.

Keep in mind the higher the seat the longer paddle you will want.

It is, Ll. It's fast but still stable. You'd have to intentionally try to flip it to get it to roll over.

Do you float the deer out? I see the bow and stand no place for the deer though.

I thought mine was stable and hard to flip to, untill I flipped it on a lake with a 3/8" layer of ice on it beaver trapping. It was a bit of a cold morning.

The older I get the more I like the comfort of the raised soft seat and ease of getting in and out of the sit on tops like the one above.

Good observation. I've used the kayak for ease of padding and stealth but have had to pull deer out with a canoe. I could probably strap a small deer on the rear bulkhead and get it out but never tried. The beam is wider than it looks in the pics. It is very stable.

For a fishing rig, sit on top for me, more accessible storage and modifications for your needs. And it easy as sitting down.

If you plan on using a kayak for smaller streams with many portages where you have to get out and walk it in the shallows, you may regret a sit-in kayak. With the sit-in climbing in and out gets old, a sit-on is simply drop your legs and stand up.

I figured deer will float so maybe you just drug them along behind you. Would keep it cool when it's hot early bow season. I like accessing public ground from the water. To many u tube guys making it a popular method these days though.

I have floated a deer out before. They don't float well until they bloat.
