this afternoon seeing how nice it was. Even decide to pick up a few super stakes I had to leave behind last winter. And the exercise wasn't going to hurt me or Loki either. Even took a few pictures to share along the way.
Here's Loki surveying some of the recent storm damage.

Looks like some repairs to our deerstands will be in order this summer.

We've got water where we've never had before.

Even the river is way up this year. [Linked Image]
Some old beaver sign from last year.

Loki checking out a spot that's usually good for an otter or two.

Found this interesting ironwood tree I might have to harvest for a project.

You can tell it's wet when you see these sprout up.

Found a shed but couldn't find the other half. I bet he'll be a dandy this fall if he makes it through the summer.

Overall it was a very enjoyable walk. Of course anyone with a dog knows that for every mile you put on, your dog puts on ten. Loki is taking a nap right now but I'm sure he'll be ready for another go round in no time.

Great pictures, thanks for posting.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

At my hunting club we screw a ground auger under every stand and anchor with guy wire. Not even hurricanes blow them over. Need a long metal bar and two teens to screw them in or out.

Charles, some of those stands did have guide wires and anchored with a 5' steel fence post. Our ground is saturated and with the storm we had recently brought down alot of things that wasn't supposed to go down. 90 mph winds and several tornadoes. Neighbors lost a large machine shed as well as the roof of their house. A few screw type anchors in those conditions wouldn't hold.

Been cutting up lot's of trees for friends and neighbors. Unfortunately I don't burn wood but many of my neighbors do but many are trying to get back into the fields. Been cleaning up yards, roads and fields just so people can get around again. The trees in the woods will have to wait as it's too wet to get my skid loader in there without getting stuck. I plan on cutting much of it for saw logs and the rest for firewood.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

That ironwood almost looks like a trail marker tree, but too high from the ground perhaps.

I agree wytex. Seen several others that might have been but again too high, all where ironwood.

About 30 years ago an artist moved up the road from me and put a wood working shop in his barn. He loved to find trees like that iron wood. Those limbs that come up at 90 degree angles he called "knees". He would turn these on his lathes and make vases and bowls that looked fantastic.
