I have an Exmark Lazer E Series Lazer Z zero turn with a Kawasaki engine.

I currently use Kawasaki branded 10w-40 oil. I was at shop (not the one I bought it from) and mentioned switching from the Kawasaki brand oil. They didn't recommend it.

Is this a bunch of bull?

Would 10W-40 from Autozone work the same as the Kawasaki branded oil from a dealer?

If its under warranty, I would stick with OEM oil.

it may the thing to do would be to send the oil out for a test the thing is your looking at 40-50 dollars to test an oil

so if you have a two hundred dollar oil change testing makes sense

if you have a 20 dollar oil change it can be more cost effective to just change it and keep using the same stuff.

If it's still under warranty, not using their Kawasaki oil would be an easy out if something went wrong.

I run 5-40 synthetic-just because it says Kawasaki on the bottle doesn’t make it better.

I'm a firm believer in synthetic oil in everything.

I'd be willing to bet its the same (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) oil. But he can't sell you the brand if he tells you that.

The ANSI (American National Standards Institute), and the SAE (Society of American Engineers) ratings insure the minimum protection required. But manufacturers are allowed to add anything extra that they feel will meet the requirements of their machinery. If they recommend a specific oil it's for a reason, but it may only mean that they want to sell you something aftermarket at their prices.

Just put the cheap walmart oil in it then you will know.

Thought most smaller engines used 30W oil in them maybe that’s just the old Biggs?

You can run shell rotella but good luck finding it for a reasonable price. Availability has been terrible for shell rotella in my limited experience.

Read your manual. It may state somewhere in there that you need to use Kawasaki oil or equivalent.

Not all lawn mower engines have recommendations to use synthetic oil.

I use Rosella T6 5-40 in all of my small engines. Id even use T6 15-40 if I didnt have so much 5-40 on hand. When using a synthetic 40 weight oil, the 15w flows like a 5w in cold temps. I probably have the identical Kawasaki engine you have in your mower in mine.
