what is interesting is almost no one seems to give more than a 1 year warranty on a Semi auto 20ga but will give a 10 year on a pump

Weatherby will give 5 years on most of theirs , the issue with the Turkish made Semi autos is a lot of them are made to a price point and if you use them hard I worry your going to break something , parts and service isn't what it is for many of the popular guns you come to expect parts and service for

the Mossberg 500 20 pump is very solid and simple to work on lots of parts available.

I wish I could recommend a 20ga semi auto but man basically they are all made in turkey or over 1K these days

for what ever reason 12 ga is a little different because of competition and tactical guns , the new Mossberg 940 has already seen a lot of competition use as has the Berretta 1301 and even even the stoger m3000

guys have run many thousands of rounds in the 940 and it is designed to take it they say 1500 rounds before maintenance on the gas system.

unless the kids are very small I would almost say go 12ga semi auto and use all 2 3/4 loads.

maybe some one else has more experience with them

I grew up on a Rem 1100 20ga my dad bought when I was 11 it was an excellent choice you could look for one used they are still good guns , you can get the o-rings for the gas system and replace them that is what wears out onthem it is about 10 dollars each time when I was 14 I bought my own in 12ga and he still used the 1100 20 ga ,till a couple years ago , he hasn't shot much the last 3 years. few rounds from his AR and pistol. he heads south to fish hsi winters away in FL now.

thanks guys. There is no rush on getting one right away. The two older kids birthday aren't until september. Im leaning more towards the stoeger 3500 to be honest. Charlottes birthday is today but shes not ready for a gun just yet.

The wife has one. So far, no problems. It has three or so boxes run thru it.

I have 2 youth models and it has performed as expected on 4 turkeys the last two years. No complaints. I bought the first one a few years ago and second one for second kid last year. Customer service is close in Kansas City so if I ever did have issue - I'd likely drive over

I started my boy out with the Mossberg 500 youth model in 20 ga. As you can see he wasn't very big but he handled the recoil and the action just fine. I think he was 9 in this pic. It is still solid 14 years later

Right now Morgan is shooting an 870 youth 20g and Bobby is shooting the mossberg mini bantam 410. Morgan can really shoot though so I plan on getting her a new one before next year. Maybe I should just get her her own benelli 20g. Lots of time to decide

my son was a little bigger , got his 500C 20ga at 10 we bought it on a January morning the snow was coming down so fast you could hardly see the target but he had to shoot it right away.

that was 8 years ago I liked it so much I bought one for myself when I found one for a good price

I have 12 ga Viper SA ,Left hand and love it ! Includes shims to get your comb the right place for your shot placement (shims go between receiver and stock . So far it is good hope to put at least 1000 rounds through this year ,time will tell . Cycles 7/8 oz reloads without a hiccup .
