Saw this on my Facebook thread. Thoughts on my reply?

I am actually down for that. Lets look at the steps to buy a gun in Canada: Mandatory weekend firearms safety course, paid for out of pocket followed by a multiple page application requiring multiple references. You must include a specially sized photograph signed by a guarantor affirming that it indeed is your image, then send the application away for review with a waiting period that is currently as much as 6 months while the RCMP call your references, guarantors, and ex’s (yes, that is on the application too) to see if they all think you should own guns. If you have made no clerical errors, all your info is correct, and no one says that you perhaps occasionally get angry, then your application is approved. When it finally comes in, you must first ensure that you have a specially designed storage area to store these guns, and generally a separate spot for ammunition. When you go to buy a firearm, the store takes down your name, address, copy of your Possession and Acquisition license, and then a sales associate escorts you out of the store carrying the firearm after you have paid, where you can then finally actually hold your new unloaded, trigger locked and properly encased firearm. The store keeps your information for their records for a lengthy period of time, and that info must be made available for any inquiring law enforcement. And this is for an unrestricted shotgun or deer rifle. Handguns and modern sporting rifles have a much higher level of scrutiny, courses, paperwork and storage requirements with the additional regulation that you must first obtain a written document before even moving your handgun or MSR from house. You are also not allowed to shoot a restricted firearm anywhere other than a licensed gun range, or in some cases on a trap line for specific reasons. Add to that the fact that recently the Liberals reviewed all firearms and decided that many common models are now illegal to own at all, and you are a criminal should you not turn in or destroy the gun you have owned for years. The only reason for this arbitrary gun ban is that some of these firearms look scary, despite functioning the same as other perfectly legal firearms. The Liberals also recently forced through a back door long gun registry. I understand that this quote is likely intended for an American audience, however lets keep in mind that in Canada abortions are relatively easy to come by, free, and the government doesn’t treat you like a criminal from the onset regardless of your reasons for wanting to kill an unborn child. America has created their own problems and are sadly reaping the consequences of such, and the real answer to the problem is very complex and unclear... But when it comes to Canada vs USA, lets be a bit careful and look at the facts on these issues instead of repeating the rhetoric and jumping on the bandwagon. We are simply not the same.

And as for the last part, about a woman killing a whole room of kids, there were 45,000 gun related homicides in the USA last year. In the same time period, there were over 600,000 abortions. Women's rights and your opinion on abortion aside, comparing body counts does not support his argument...

You're not going to be able to reason with an idiot of this magnitude.

mass shooting by the numbers in the last decade say that 4 mass shooters were old enough to buy the gun used and did so legally that is of 74 such events

the media wants to push the 18 and armed narrative but the reality is most shooters are over 21 in mass shooting events

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

There were @45,000 gun related deaths inn the US las year. More than 50% of those were suicides. Less than 50% were homicides.
Twice as many people are killed by second hand smoke than homicide with a gun.

There is still no constitutional right to an abortion, There is however a second ammendment for adults. 18 is old enough to be an adult by law and should be covered by the second .

Makes me glad I don’t live in Canada with those gun restrictions. It may becoming here, though.

The original quote was obviously a troll attempt. I hope.

I just figured that it was weird to see a canadian post about how easy it is to get a gun

The reality is that once you get a license, it all is easier. Despite the laws, I can still legally drive down the road with an unloaded gun across my lap.

Maybe not in a city... but for the purposes I own a gun, hunting, its not overly restrictive.

Another large difference between the two countries.

Seems the only rights we have is the right to be taxed to the breaking point by the darn government.

Well, yes, but lets not let the truth ruin a good headline.

i wonder if self defense cases where a bad guy is shot is included in those numbers? And if so, what those numbers are?

I imagine those stats are hidden deep down in the dregs of the internet

Anyone who uses the term "gun violence" is too stupid to reason with.
