New Tacoma look. Grandson just drove one off the lot!

They have kits to repair the Tacoma frames. https://www.bestdeals.today/tacoma-...w_api=true&dest=0&sys_id=0%7C930

I had mine reinforced by a local garage. They took it down to bare metal, cut out the bad spots, welded plates over them and painted. Its been a few years and it's holding up great. Now has 722,000+ miles on the old girl. It doesn't get so many miles now that I no longer have the big timber company contract.

Have you ever seen a kit for the 05 and newer trucks? I know they are physically larger so I would assu e the frames are different.

No I haven't. I should have mentioned these kits are for 95 - 04.

This is the first time I have ever heard of anybody having issues with the 05 and newer frames. I wasn't aware the recall ever covered anything newer than 04 either. Was never an issue out here, only ones that the local garages had ever seen were ones from back east like Wisconsin and Michigan and sold out here because they could get twice the money from unsuspecting buyers. Of course now they are spraying all that de-icer crap on the roads and even using salt, so in a few years we will probably get problems.

By the way, if you were okay with an automatic (I'm not) you should have taken the day off work to go buy that truck. In fact if I was you I would have jumped in my rig when I got off the phone with them and headed their way. That was a steal of a buy.

I have a 2008 Tacoma which I bought new that Toyota replaced the entire frame and misc. components in 2019. I personally did not think it was rusted that bad but the dealer tested it and told Toyota that it needed to be replaced. I'm very grateful that Toyota picked up that bill.

bought an '03 with 79K on it in 2018, never heard about the frame issues until then, the frame recall ran out in 2018 for that model. so will deal with it like the other owners do, plate it when it breaks. truck now has 94K on it, just use it for my yearly trip to the obx.

I drive one as my surveying-field vehicle. It is a 2011, V6 auto tranny. It has 93,000 miles on it with no problems.
We had a 1998 before that, that Toyota recalled because of the frame rusting. They gave me far more than the truck
was worth to trade it in on a new one.
Pros: Has positive traction rear and will about climb a tree if the bark would hold. Solid 4WD
Good turning radius, gets around in the woods, tight spots, etc.
Cons: While it has adequate power for its size, the gas mileage sucks. 15 mpg or so.
They are small, I'm 6'2" with broad shoulders, the cab space is narrow. The back seat is not meant to ride in but holds equipment well and locks up.
This truck is not the full 4 door model and I bet the new ones are better.
Zim

If your 5’8” 170 lbs …you’ll fit in it. An 07 up here in the Northeast is non existent ( Rusty )…Other than that …your good to go

Little trucks for little people

Could be Nessy, remember Paul had put about 600,000 miles on his outfit.
They don't get the salt, sand and rust like we do.

Tacoma's are great trucks! I have owned 8 including the one I have now. Fuel consumption could be much better for a small sized truck with a V6!
