Never heard of this race before. Some pretty high tech stuff.

Dads cousin had an auto parts store in Colorado Springs in the 60's and Seventies. He sponsored a car for that race every year. Brought him a lot of business. Road was gravel then. Been a few die in that race. Unlike races on a track they time them. Dont have to pass each other. just drive up the hill.

Not much room for error on some of those turns!

West side of the state is the lands end run on the Grand mesa. Dirt and tight switch backs.

Back in the days of carburated engines, I suppose they could make adjustments to the fuel mixture as the altitude increased, otherwise wouldn't they get too rich.

Charles I never knew of anybody taking time to turn the fuel air screws. They just ran rich at the top and lean at the bottom
