It's a day of remembrance of the fallen, to the people that sacrificed their lives for their country. It's memorial day, not happy memorial day. Be grateful for what you have.

I disagree I've spent the majority of my life hanging out with Veterans some even from WW II because my dad was the Commander of the VFW and the American Legion Club .
And have wonderful memories of those days spent helping the color guard with flags , rifles and even loading clips and patrolling the brass then handing it out to whomever may like or want to have it to remember those that did give the ultimate sacrifice .

When I was in band back in my school days I enjoyed playing at the Memorial Day Services and was happy to do so out of respect for those whose family was there remembering those who gave there all shedding a tear or two and even a smile and laugh .
So yes be grateful and Happy for what those brave men and women have done for us .

I feel you've missed the point.

Ive never understood how this weekend is treated. Many get the day off work and have bbq’s/camping or whatever cliche 3 day weekend celebration families come up with. Ive also never understood everyone getting Veterans Day off-seems only Veterans should. Now we have Juneteenth.

I do struggle personally that the holiday has turned into a day were we memorialize all our loved ones who have pasted. Not judging anyone or trying to say they shouldn't do it just my personally view on it. When we forget the price of freedom we start to take it for granted then the next step is we start losing it.

The irony of this day is that the Commander in Chief that is visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is also spitting on the graves of those who sacrificed all for the Republic and its Constitution.

Thanks Flicker shad.
I just had a discussion with some of my cousins about this very topic. I am curious what some of the other Veterans think about this. After being wished a happy Memorial Day and thanked for my service this was my response...." I would like to ask something of you regarding your thanks for my service. While I appreciate your sentiments, I would respectfully ask that we all remember that Veterans Day is the appropriate day for those thanks. Memorial Day is the day set aside to remember and honor those who paid the ultimate price and did not return home. May they Rest in Peace and may we never forget!"

Guess I am missing your point as well as I see no need to be unhappy today. Remembering the ones that gave all so we can be free is something to be grateful for and gratefulness brings happiness.

Well, Mr. Flicker, I'm pretty sure we can all be grateful for what we have and honor the sacrifices while still remaining happy.

I see what you're talking about Flick. It seems most Americans miss the meaning of the day or don't see the relevance in their lives.

I am incredibly grateful for the brave men and women who sacrificed it all so I didn't have to.

Today is a memorial, not a celebration.

I too wouldn't say its a "Happy" day, but over the years I've learned to "Celebrate" those who have passed for their joy of life along with mourning their death.

Depression is a serious medical condition.

Maybe consider a little support if this condition persists. Personally, I share a bit of it from the Uvalde shooting. However, decades old conflicts leave me with tons of respect that does not interfere with happiness.

I guess we shouldn't enjoy life on July 4th either since alot of men died fighting for our independence. Some folks just look for things to be upset about. Can we call it a day of remembrance and still enjoy life?

Life ain't supposed to be easy.
