Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, another agency that makes regulation with the force of law, yet is not elected and represents no one, wants to speed limiters on commercial vehicles. Anything over 26000 pounds.

If you believe that is safer get on a 70 or 75 MPH interstate during heavy traffic hours and set your cruise at 65.

Guys I know are talking about running in groups, taking up all lanes, forcing everyone to drive that speed.

Our company has them now. I hate them, some are as low as 62mph and many people don't realize how fast they are approaching and have to swerve at the last second to pass.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

If one spends much time on interstates, you already experience plenty of rolling roadblocks now. Especially on roads with heavy truck traffic and states like Indiana where the lawmakers think having a lower speed limit for trucks is a good thing. And some states have signs that say if you are running the speed limit or below to stay in the right lane but they are ignored just like the slower traffic keep right signs on interstates.

But it is not all trucks either. Plenty of idiots in 4 wheelers that think they own the left lane regardless of the speed they are running. Plenty of rolling traffic hazards out there already.

Boy ain't that the truth!
I saw cops in early morning around Tupelo MS purposely driving side by side to slow down the interstate traffic two weeks ago. Just east of the Toyota assembly plant if my wires aren't crossed.

High fuel, speed limiters, you think trucking companies are going to eat that loss or raise rates? Believe it or not your house and almost everything in it have been in a truck and part of what you paid was the freight rate. If you live in a home built by a developer a lot of your yard was hauled in or out by a truck.

If I had to guess I'd say bad drivers either in the cab or in the four wheeler. And bad drivers are unsafe at any speed.

Everyone one knows the left lane on any road no matter the posted speed limit. Is for the people who really know how to drive. Just ask them they will tell you. The rest of us idiots belong in right lane out of their way. They got places they need to be more important than trucks or anyone else.

If they are going to put limiters on anything they should be mounted somehow on side road. Not all cruise controls are even the same. Try setting your cruise at 65 and you catch up to someone else is at 64 or maybe yours is the one at 66. Just hard to get nice line going at any speed. To many variables in vehicle systems.

Saying speed limiters make for fewer accidents is a lot like a politician telling you that you are safer when your unarmed. Ever been in a situation when you need to speed up?

I dont understand all the science behind it but exceeding 70MPH in any vehicle, but especially big trucks, increases fuel consumption by a bunch. There is a kind of barrier you cross. Most of the time, especially now, a semi isnt going much over 70 anyway.
