They are bull snakes, which are also known as pine snakes in the Eastern US and gopher snakes in the Western US. They get up to 8' long.
I would of kept them.
Keith Yep my dad always called them pine snakes, generally he left them along but I remember him killing one late one November evening when it decided to crawl out of hibernation and join him and ma in bed Later we kind of thought it might have been hibernating between the mattresses and when the cabin warmed up got active Never knew ma knew those kinds of words

They are great mousers and will also kill rattlers. I am not a snake fan but I always let the bull snakes go on their way.
I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

Thanks guys. My boss wanted them dead. I was “busy” trimming and they just plain got away. Darn. Lol Looked like good mouse eaters to me.
I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

they eat lots of birds and squirrel I have never seen a fox snake big enough to eat a squirrel. They will put a hurting on the mice though. They will eat frogs too if they get the chance.
