YEs, I KNOW!!! Harbor Freight does not have the top of the line tools. But, just looking for a Saw that I use only occasionally !

looking at this one:

CHICAGO ELECTRIC POWER TOOLS
7.5 Amp Variable Speed Reciprocating Saw for $49.99

And , then there is this cordless one.

BAUER
20V Brushless Cordless Reciprocating Saw - Tool Only

That is $84.99 Battery is 5.0 Amphour for $59.99

and the charger is $32.99 Total price for that, is $178 before Sales Tax.

Anything better ???

I would suggest , if the tool is only used occasionally , get a decent branded one used at a pawn shop or someplace that sells used.
IMO a good brand used one will cost the same as a new Harbor Freight one but last way longer and work much better.

what are you using it for ?

corded lasts a lifetime of occasional use you can get the Makita or Milwaukee base Sawzall for 119new at home depot

batteries , well they don't last for ever , cheap batteries are even worse

used Milwaukee corded sawzalls are selling 35-50 dollars and most of them can be rebuilt

warning if your cutting up deer with it put something on the blade clamp I ruined one cutting deer it was all rusted come spring , parts to rebuild were not to bad I greased it well now and make sure to clean it after use and not forget till spring

I just purchased one because I need to saw some piping. I checked with a local rental company they wanted $46 dollars for the day. I purchased a porter cable corded 7.5 amp brand new on Ebay for $54.99 shipped. The seller I purchased if from has sold over 200 of them.

I have been using the corded one from Harbor Freight for several years, occasional use as mentioned in the original post. I think the price back when I bought it was $29.99 so I did not have high expectations but it has done the job every time I have needed it. Even if it quits next time I use it, I have certainly got my moneys worth out of it.

Having learned of the 'Sawzalls' existence, on you tube, I grabbed a passing Makita Red Label one. Was it about $75.00? Year or two ago. Just because men and tools ...

Man! What a useful piece of kit! I sort of guessed ~ Hoped! ~ I'd find some sort of use for it. Now? I'd say it's on a par with my power drill. I just don't how I got along without it. I'm always using it cool

Hackzall is 100% better than a standard Sawzall.

now that you have one you need an assortment of blades , the Diablo bimetallic wrecking blades are good general purpose wood with nails in it , they have some good metal cutting blades

I picked up some tree pruning blades for mine and used them to split a beef , they cut very fast

I first got introduced to the Makita reciprocating saw about 1992 the boss had a few I used . bought my Milwaukee Sawzall in about 2002 the blades have come a long way from 1992 there is little you can't cut with them today

My Tiger saw has lasted me for 2 decades of occasional use. It has been used heavily on several projects over that time. It has been a great investment.

Congrats! I think you found yourself a fine solution.

So, my thoughts are now moot, but.

I've had really good luck with the Harbor Freight Bauer 20 volt angle grinder. Now that I have the charger and two five amp batteries, I know the next time I need a remote tool like the circular or recip. saw, that's the route I will take,

I use most of my tools around salt water so I buy cheap throw away stuff. The funny thing is, I find that most of the cheap Chinese junk last just as long as the name brand stuff.
I've had a Porter-Cable set (sawzall, circular saw, drill) that has lasted 14 years. The batteries still hold a charge after sitting through subzero temperatures all winter.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the name brand stuff and the cheap stuff is all made in the same Chinese factory.
