There was a member on here who used to post videos of hunting muskrats with his pet mink.

I know a lot of people that kept mink, both wild and domestic born. They were not affectionate, but they weren't aggressive either. They were able to be safely handled bare handed.

I had a pet male ranch mink when I was a kid. It didn't need to be de-scented. It wasn't particularly friendly to anyone other than me.

We tried keeping a baby mink as a pet when I was a kid. As other have implied, once it got mature it turned into a vile, biting/spinning machine. "Squeeky" had to find a new home.

Not sure but would not be surprised. The big, burly guy who took him ignored our warnings about how mean he was and put his fingers right into the ends of the cage the mink was kept in and picked up the cage. First chance he got the mink came out of his house and turned into a whirling, biting machine on the guy's fingers.

the important thing to remember...when a mink bites you, is to not panic and pull your hand away, as that is what causes the most damage grin

I believe with most animals that young, their mothers lick their butts to make them poop until they get a little older. If not the toxicity can kill them. Now you can use a wet cloth or lick the kits hind end yourself??? Your choice. That's what I was told after finding some baby possums that had their mother ran over. Took them to the nature center and was instructed by them. I told them they could keep them and do it.

The only time Donald ever bit me was one night I went and put my hand into his nest box to pick him up. I had just got done skinning a weasel. Hit bit my hand like a machine gun, I don't know how many times he hit my hand in about two seconds, but my hand looked like a pin cushion by the time I pulled it out of his nest box.

lol- don't pull your hand away too fast lol- I'd hate to see the results of pulling it away slowly. Our mink was named Ruth- does anyone want to guess what that name was short for? I'd watch her show a snake it's tail and before the snake knew it she had the back of his head. I also went to put a minnow in her cage and before I knew it I had holes in my thumbnail from both directions. Anyone who would let their kids play with a pet mink xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx should not do it. They w!ll eventually see the wisdom in my words. Maybe not today, Maybe not tomorrow but soon and when you are reminded of my words well it will be too late. Have you ever heard the saying - Don't bite the hand that feeds you? Well Ruth never heeded that advice.
