A friend live caught a skunk in his henhouse (a female with sagging teats) and relocated her 4 miles away and on the opposite side of a 30 ft wide river. Would you expect that skunk to return? It would either have to walk upstream for a mile to a bridge or a mile downstream to a bridge..... or swim. Whatcha think?

I dont know, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did return.
Black bears have returned when moved over 200 miles in a few weeks.

Skunks, like other mustelids, swim well. They are born knowing how to swim. The skunk is probably already back with it's litter.

At 2:30 in this video, you can watch a newly mobile, very young skunk, swim well.

Well, if that's the case probably end up back in the live trap in a few. Seems to like eating chicken and eggs.

Will a skunk enter a cage trap after being caught once before?

Ive caught previously released skunks in cages though their only other options was to dig a new hole or starve. And those skunks never settle down in the cage so prepare to get sprayed.

Skunks are almost as dumb as cats-they will get caught in a trap many times if you release them or they escape.

Georgia must be euthanized, cannot relocate.

BUT, you can have one as a pet. As long as it is any color other than black and white.

I've played around skunks quite a bit as a nuisance animal. Been inches away from them , grabbed wild ones with just gloves ( for just moments , but in the danger zone for sure)

Never.Been.Sprayed.

IMO opinion , at least 10 miles to release with low likelihood of return. Illegal to relocate here ' rabies vector species'
