By psychologists and those attempting to get to the core of issues involved in mass shootings, and other public disturbances occurring.

Freudian life issues related to life and death instincts are quite fascinating but as I read recent commentaries it's fascinating how so many current scientists consider anything older than 20-30 years, "obsolete."

How'd we ever get so self-righteous that researchers and scientists and professionals at so many levels think that historical "anything" is irrelevant.
History teaches us much but we toss out history as if it is useless.
My goodness, how dumb is that.

I still wish they made the "old" Craftsman tools!

Blessings,
Mark

Psychologists have become door mats for politicians. The entire field is being bought with grants and research money, atleast that's how it appears from the outside.

First of all America is the greatest country in the history of mankind .But we have become a society of self proclaimed EXPERTS. Far to many people think they know everything about everything about everything And anyone that disagrees with them is just a waste of time and space. No one wants to bother with problem solving anymore . The louder and more obnoxious your argument is the more it proves you are right

Newt's a smart guy I can get on board with a lot of what he says here.

Texas school shooting was evil. Bring God back into the public dialogue and acknowledge the existence of evil.
Newt Gingrich

As I listen to the various discussions and speculations about the horrible – but all too common – mass killing at Uvalde's Robb Elementary School, I am haunted by the core analysis that seems to be unacceptable to our elites.

Evil exists. Evil hunts for opportunities to infect humans. Humans infected and overpowered by evil do horrible things.
The more than two-centuries-old drive to replace religion with secularism and faith with popular rationale, has been a stunning failure in the disasters it has created for mere mortals.

Swapping Isaiah for Freud and the Gospels for modern psychology has left a nation of empty souls – and a desperation for meaning.

To be clear: I’m not arguing for the converse. Psychology and mental health disciplines are desperately needed – but alone, they are inadequate. When they replace spiritual disciplines, it is to humanity’s detriment.

The vacuum left in people’s lives by the collapse of faith has been filled by alcohol and drug abuse. As people become desperate in the absence of inner faith and meaning, their need for reassurance and a sense of being alive leads to more dangerous addictions. The search for salvation is replaced by the search for sensation.
God warned us in the first of the Ten Commandments: "You shall have no other gods before me." Today, throughout the Western world, people reject this warning. Far too many people behave as though they have become gods in redefining their sexuality, their right to be addicts, and their right to harm themselves and others. A godless world is a dangerous jungle filled with predators and victims.

In a world of desperate emptiness, predators emerge and organize. Drug cartels and dealers, carjackers, rapists, robbers, and murderers victimize and exploit the innocent.

Ancient Greeks warned that hubris (excessive pride – and specifically a belief that you are beyond the laws of gods and nature) attracts Nemesis (a spirit of vengeance who inflicted retribution upon arrogance and caused powerful humans to fall from great heights to great depths).
The West’s rejection of God and salvation, its focus on self and the right to redefine reality, and the assertion of earthly values over spiritual values, attract the multitude of nemeses we now face.

If we are really going to change the trajectory of decay and death, we must be prepared to bring back into our public dialogue a set of values and ideas that the current establishment will find frightening and totally unacceptable.
Here are a few first steps:

First, acknowledge evil exists in our society.

Second, allow prayer in schools. Students should be allowed to pray freely in circumstances which don’t disrupt classrooms.

Third, recognize that the experiment in closing mental hospitals and putting severely ill people on the street has been a huge failure and has led to levels of drug addiction, violence, murder, and decay which would have been unthinkable a generation ago.

Fourth, recognize that bringing God back into public dialogue is essential. The Alcoholics Anonymous 12 steps program is a prime example. Among other things, participants must admit they are powerless; acknowledge they need a greater power to manage their lives; confess their deepest failings to God, themselves, and others; and ask God to forgive and remove those failings from them.
Fifth, we must recognize that Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s hope of a country in which the content of our character is more important than the color of our skin suggests that re-centering education and much of life on character development is vital. Simply asking what has happened to the character of people who commit violence, sell drugs, and prey upon others starts a totally different conversation about solutions.

Sixth, the drug crisis and the deaths from overdose are now such an epidemic we should re-establish widespread drug testing and mandatory rehabilitation.

Seventh, threats of imminent, aggravated violence on the internet must be quickly detectable, unacceptable, and punishable.

Eighth, the legal system must be radically overhauled so murderers and drug dealers can face speedy punishment. A legal system which takes years to execute sentences – and involves massive procedural obstructions – is a system which separates crime from punishment and has no effective impact on deterring potential criminals. Justice must be swift to deter unacceptable behavior.
I do not assert that I have all the answers – or that I’m totally right. These examples are designed to begin a dialogue. Some of these ideas may work. Some may be rejected. Others may be improved.
Bringing God back into the public dialogue and acknowledging the existence of evil as a real danger to humanity are important first steps.

you can vote your way into socialism, but you will have to shoot your way out.

Freud may have been a little "out-there" with some of his Ideas, however the Eros/Thanatos concept sure can explain a lot of things.

I had a crewman for a couple of years not too long ago who I had to let go two years ago; he was a classic example of Thanatos personality. A very sad situation. No one had heard from him in a month or so, did a welfare check and found him dead, in a "collapsed position with his cell phone in his hand, no signs of suicide or substances". I think he literally thought himself to death. We all tried to help him for years, he rejected any form of help. The last time I saw him was in late March. He was 23 years old.
RIP Kannon.

Mental health issues seem to be increasingly more common and are resulting in greater tragedies. I have no idea what to do about the problem, but we at least need to acknowledge it.

Drasselt,

Very strong post brother with solutions aimed where they should be aimed.
I fear that the secularism of which you speak, which is the common core in our land no matter where you live in 2022, has ravaged the Western underpinnings and set our cultures adrift on a sea called Whatever. And whatever leads to many different interesting issues.

Issues including my whatever, if I am a secularist, can't be challenged by another's whatever. We have different whatevers, and the Scottish theme from the 17th century called "Common Sense," is lost on any of us because Common Sense starts with a reverence, and awe, and fear (obedience) of the Lord God.

With no fear of the Lord.... well then my whatever becomes by definition any person's godly declaration.
We have millions of competing godly declarations from the people now. And more on the way.
All the whatevers are competing for King of the Hill called "us."
The vast majority are selfish in nature and leave no memorable legacy that future generations can look back on with pride but then again who now-a-days is much interested in a legacy. We've been sold that leaving money to our kids is a quality legacy when in fact that is rarely the case. Money is merely a thing and human hearts and souls were meant for much more than things.

We are created by God as relational beings and the proper relationship has never changed because God does not change the crafting of our
rationing minds,
our physical bodies, and
our spiritual souls.
All need nurturing of course to be healthy and strong in the face of life, but we as a secular nation have decided that the last portion of God's crafting, which is vital, is of no consequence.

The brokenness of many souls, which leads to broken physical bodies, and broken rational minds tells all of us otherwise.
But we have not been taught well as a people, because our parents weren't taught well by their parents and so it has been since the Enlightenment of just a few hundred years.

Humans are building their new Babylon with Towers of Babel everywhere.
It's impressive but it's costly in human life and suffering.
Where have we read that before wink

Scripture tells us that evil can more easily enter the hearts and minds of those whose chronic sin has dominion over them.
I believe there is untold levels of chronic sin occurring nowadays with rampant pornography and human trafficking at historical highs, etc.
And as more people fall into a chronic sin lifestyle, because their "whatever" lifestyle tells them all is well, evil has more of a playing field to operate in according to Holy Scripture, and so we all become involved in the games people play.

But God is on the Throne and He is a God who does miraculous things with impossible odds.
So we continue to do what we can, where we are, with what we have.

Blessings!
Mark
