What regulations should be put in place from here forward? Should we limit loan forgiveness to accreditated state-supported institutions? Seems like most of the tuition abuse has been with "for-profit" institutions.

My parents were poor, but they paid my way. An aunt helped them. I never made much myself but I sent two kids through prestigious universities. My mom helped. Not sure I support giving my tax dollars to kids who went to "for-profit" schools as a last resort.

Deserving kids have a right to an education if they do their part. How do your feel?

When we had a war and a draft, we took it seriously.

Life ain't supposed to be easy, but they're making kids soft so they'll be easy to influence afterwards.
We need a good hard depression to toughen people up again. But then the Gubmint (politicians) will have us by the nuts.

Student loans should never be forgiven. You have three choices... have rich relatives pay your way, work and pay your own way through college (what I did), or join the military to get free college.

If none of those appeal to you, just don't go to college. Or get the loans and spend the rest of your life paying them back (which seems pretty stupid to me).

I couldn't agree more. The military is an excellent option for nearly everyone.

No one should be forced by the government to pay for someone else's kid's tuition.

There are so many scholarships and grants students can get that they don't need to go deep into debt. It's a lot of work to get them, but hard work pays off. Also student can work long hour jobs in the summer to pay as well. Also the option to go to cheaper state schools for the first couple of years. There's always a way to not go into debt for school or at least keep it manageable. People are just to lazy to go that route.

My nephew's daughter just graduated from Lincoln SE in Lincoln NE. She's a very bright girl but she's white. Every scholarship was given to a brown skinned student. 600 graduates. 21 different languages I was told. When I'm downtown I rarely hear English spoken here in Florida.

Perhaps the first required class should be economics where you work through the subject of taking out loans, interest, and paying loans back, to see if the cost of a college education makes sense.

That's not what college is about.......it's about breeding budding young liberals.

End the student loan program. College prices will either come down to what the average kid can earn during the summer or they will close. I will bet on prices dropping. Dropping a bunch.

A college education is NOT a right, deserving or not. If you can't afford to go, work it out or don't go. Simple.

I paid for every hour of mine. They can too.

Or skip college and go to work. I would however suggest the military or votech first.

If they forgive some of them now they will forgive more later, they want free state run college and this is how they are going to achieve it.

They signed the loan agreement. I didn't. Not my problem.

They can pay it back. Everyone is hiring right now.

I have vented about forgiving student loans in the past. I am not a college person, I was told by my parents that if I wanted to go, they'd pay my way. I had no intention of going to college. I tried to join the military on the "delayed Enlistment" (?) deal when I was a senior in HS. To their credit, even the Air Force wouldn't take me on account of my lungs being junk even back then. My daughter was talking college at about the 1st grade! I knew I wasn't going to be able to help her much, and so did she. She has always been goal oriented and would set a goal and work her butt off until it was a done deal. Sam Walton and her own hard work put her through college where she graduated 100% debt free. She did it by working at the local Walmart and keeping her nose to the grindstone. Took her 7 1/2 years to get a 4 year degree, but it was paid in full the day that diploma hit her hand. Her mother and I were, and still are, very proud of her. She went on to get her Masters later, and is now only 4 1/2 years from retiring. I hope she gets to enjoy that pension for many many decades! But I regress......if they forgive the loans I sure hope they intend to send my daughter a fat check to reimburse her for all her money spent on tuition as well, or this family is going to be ticked off BIG time!

Maybe it used to be. I don't want my kids getting left high and dry by the jack legs in our government. The last time a we were at a festival with the several branches trying to get kids interested in the military I brought up Afghanistan asked a few questions that could not be answered the guy hung his head and stepped aside.

I love our service members but I don't trust our leaders and I will do everything in my power to discouraged my kids from joining. Just the same way I will try to keep them off a street bike.

Forgiving $50,000,000,000.00 should help with inflation
