Thanks for the nice words. Wood is a special thing. You just have to take off the bad stuff to find the good stuff.... like with some people.

I might make another one for a raffle at our local hunting group's lunch in July. It is a fundraiser and we'll be about 100 people eating red stag steaks and lots of other stuff. It's a fun time as hunters, neighbors and farmers come together because everyone appreciates the fact that we take care of the wild boar and the deer that eat the crops, and they have a great meal at the same time.

Thanks.

Pete

Lumberjack391,

Sorry I forgot to answer your question. It is from here in France. It is English walnut and they grow tons of walnuts not far from me. In CA I had access to beautiful black walnut, that was also referred to as Claro walnut with lots of reddish tones. This wood is perfect for gunstocks as well.

Nice! Been wanting to play around with epoxy, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Like I said, this was my first try with the epoxy. It was easy but there is a lot to learn to get the look you want. If you want a transparent effect you have to do it in two pours.... the second one being clear. Sealing off the voids on the bottom side is tough too. Duct tape didn't work well and I had a leak. Definitely put a tarp or something underneath it.

As for price I have no idea. Most of the pros who sell big dining tables for big bucks have the customers come to them. Between the walnut and the epoxy I have about 50 bucks in this table. The epoxy sands well and polishes up nicely if you use automotive grits.

As for the guitars, I like them all but bought them slowly when I found US made at a fair price. The strat is late 90's and the Les Paul is a 2008. The Telecaster I bought new and is a G&L. As my dad went down the road of Alzheimers we ended up having a great connection with me playing guitar over the phone or when I visited. In his memory care unit I'd play six or seven hours a day and all the others would wheel up their chairs and join in. When he passed away and left me a little money I thought it fitting to buy a guitar.

I always liked wood that had imperfections.... just like us.... so I'll keep looking for the next piece.

Good luck.

Pete

That looks awesome! I don’t have a ton of experience but just cutting plaques of walnut, cedar, or hedge and sanding and finishing them to hang deer antlers on is a lot of fun. Each cut of wood has its own character. Anyway Great work on the table.

That's beautiful. I have a couple slabs to pour some epoxy whenever I get the time.
