Can you legally trap bears like that in Canada ?

Translation not necessary. A picture is a thousand words.
Caught plenty of bears. Way too much work/elaborate a set up to catch something as dumb as a bear. Probably gonna have to replace the bucket, with all the cutting and fittings that requires, too after bear destroys it. Also that bear is left hanging up by the leg. Unnecessary grief for the bear when it could be anchored at ground level on a much shorter chain or swivel cable. Simple ground hole set up works fine.
Dragging the rag soaked in cooking oil similar to what I used to do when dragging a seal skin, with lots of blubber attached, behind the truck. Just do this coming and going to your sets. Pick an intersection of roads and/or rivers to make your sets. Bears can go anywhere but an intersection is a good place to drawn them too because of the way they move around anyway. For long distance draw take a can of sardines and bend over the tallest young tree you can. Poke a few holes in the can, tie to the top of the young tree, and release the tree to catapult the sardine tin to the top. Gets scent up in the air and moving longer distance I figure. Do this next to your set.
You don't need tons of elaborate bait to bring a bear in either. You only need to bring him in once if you do it right. You are not long term feeding him like a hunter trying to keep a bear around for a shot later.
