I found this jade (nephrite) boulder in the woods a few years ago, I finally got around to getting it out with a skid-steer. It weighs about 1200 pounds.

I think it's interesting that over the years many people wrote love notes and other messages on the rock, and even though they probably had no idea what kind of rock it was, they still knew it was significant for some reason.

Jade is found in various locations all over the world; China, Siberia, California, Alaska, British Columbia, and in glacial till in Washington (glaciers from BC). Washington is where this one was found.

I will post pictures after I clean it up and polish it a little. Might sell it to some wealthy Chinese in either Seattle or Vancouver BC.

I scour my fields from time to time usually spring before planting and occasionally find dark green stones never thought they may be significant outside of a pita

I’m always looking at rocks when I’m out and about. That is an awesome find!

Yes, unfortunately. I took a little woman to Wyoming and turned her into a rock hound. Now this morning I just boxed up a couple hundred pounds of small rocks to move to Arkansas next week.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

There are a lot of green stones, a common one that can sort of look like jade is serpentine, but a simple hardness test will reveal if it is serpentine. A piece of iron will scratch serpentine, but won't touch the jade, in fact it will leave an iron streak on the jade. There are other tests as well.

Jade comes in many colors; from white to black, green being the most common color.

Here's a couple pictures of a very dark green, nearly black jade boulder I found in the Thompson river BC. It is so hard it took on the natural polish you see in the picture.

Jadeite is more expensive than Nephrite, but Nephrite can still go for $100.00 to a $1000.00 a pound, depending on the quality. There's enough value there to make it worth finding an expert to appraise it, before trying to sell it.

I also enjoy looking for rocks and have a soft spot for jade , I'll never forget the big bolders of jade in I believe it was Kotzebue where they were cutting slices off it with a large diamond cutter .
That was a long time ago now ha ha and I just bought a jade kayak with a soapstone carved Eskimo getting ready to throw his spear at a seal .
