I usually use natural products to feetilize the garden but about once a year I'll use a bought store mix like 10 10 10 ..12 12 12 pr 19 19 19.
My question is how do I keep the fertizer from becoming wet. Within a day of opening the bag the feetilizeris wet and clumpy.
It's stored I a dry area.
Why is this happeneing?

Its hydroscopic. Except for the effort involved to bust up the clumps it is still good

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Nitrogen naturally attracts water. Bags of 15-15-15 etc.. come in plastic because of this. I just put a zip tie real tight after twisting the bag corner up that I cut to dump out fertilizer. If using a small amount an old coffee can with a lid will suffice or a 5 gallon bucket with a tight fitting lid

It sounds like a homogeneous product. Try a sulfur or poly coated product. Could spread entire bag when first opened .

No Danny, its not. Hygroscopic is what it is. Google it. I know its counter intuitive since the issue is water, but that's the correct word for something that absorbs water directly from the air. Put your opened fertilizer bag in a plastic garbage bag, twist the neck, double it over and twist tie or tape. A good lid on a 5 gal bucket usually works to.
