Got going yesterday. About a week early compared to most years. Yields are way off due to lack of moisture and high winds since January. My boys are on this crew and my little brother is running his machine with his girls. Hope everyone has a safe one.

Wow--- we can't even get our first cut hay yet -- neighbor had spring wheat and field corn go under twice now. we will see if it makes it this time. Great for my pastures. Grass seeders didn't have to water at all. Almost got the tractor stuck fertilizing about 2 weeks ago - in multiple places. Glad you are getting something done -- it has been a little challenging in our area this year.

Wow!! That seems so early....our guys are just starting in-crop spraying. Harvest is about 2 1/2 months away. Just got almost 2 inches of rain yesterday and calling for more tonight. That'll help.

Pawnee - how many acres do you have to combine? Have a safe harvest.

One of the bigger spreads just out of town was bringing in their wheat today. I didn't ever stop and wander out to look close... But it looked like a good crop.

The corn looks like it's doing good too... Really taking off.

Your early must be due to the dry weather. We are still about 10-15 days later than our 5 year average for GDUs for this time of year. See it in the crops and the wildlife. First deer fly this weekend. First snappers along the road late last week, first mosquitoes a week ago. We were cooler and drier this spring. Real hot and humid now and tomorrow. Stuff will really grow the next week. About 2.4 inches the last 5 days which was needed but far less than many of you have been getting. Still some places that are very, very dry and some way too wet.
First crop alfalfa/grass was shorter than normal but most fields more dense and with cooler weather the crop maintained better feed quality longer into the season. Our earliest or tallest corn near me is about 1 foot tall. Winter wheat is really short but heads look nice. We have a real good wheat straw market so a short straw market will create some real demand.

Maybe Saturday for us. Looking like maybe about average to a little below here. Not enough moisture 3 months ago then too much the last 3 weeks

Wheat here is just starting to change color a bit. I was out baleing hay tonight that had been rained on, twice! The current forecast looks good for haying but not for our crops

Wheat in this area has a long ways to go yet.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Farmers who have their own wells for irrigation around here just baled the first cutting of alfalfa. Those who don’t have wells….. I doubt they get any hay this year. The river is dry as can be. Tough to be a farmer here this year.

Just checked, the reservoir where the farmers get water from downstream from us is at 6% capacity.

The wheat around here has been picked mostly. It's extremely dry, been baling 1st cutting hay lately, there's no moisture to grow it back currently. Do you guys double crop those acres with beans after harvest? Hope u have good weather with no breakdowns

2,500 or so. We lost 400 to drought that we won’t be cutting. Funny how when prices are high we get hammered with hail and drought, I we were cutting 70 bushel wheat it would be worth $3

We can double crop on irrigated pivots with corn and beans but it’s rare. If the forecast shows rain I’m going to try drilling some feed into a few acres of wheat stubble for winter feed for the cows

Wheat here was combined and the straw bailed 2 weeks ago.

Well Brad, my family enjoys beef and flour so God bless you and yours for helping supply our food chain.

Or can he? hummmmm.

Passed a field this morning that I bet comes out today or tomorrow. west central Missouri guys will be getting wheat out the next few days. About 95% of all those acres will be double cropped soybeans and a few fields double cropped sunflowers.
