We are affluent to complain about just about anything and anyone. We get a lot of practice. We are developing a professional status and losing our amatuer status quickly. I don't feel that we are as depressed as we are resentful in many matters of life and our culture.

Im not as old as many on here but I feel like the current state of our country whether it’s economics, security or the political climate is the worst it’s ever been while Ive been an adult. Having two young children, I am more and more afraid for what life will be like for them as they grow up. Even stuff that is small potatoes to most folks, such as being able to afford to run a trapline with my boy as he grows up. Those were some of my best times with my old man. Ive also never worried about finances as I do now that I have a family. It’s been a depressing couple of years for most of us compared to the past I think. While life is definitely FAR from terrible, especially compared to most places in the world, it is very concerning about where we are heading vs where weve been the past 15 or so years. But you are right, it’s still the best country on earth. Some of the states here? Probably not.

The highest inflation, fuel prices, and economic collapse on the way in. Why would anyone be concerned. Surely not the young guys starting out with a family that will be getting layed off, or if he can keep his job not afford gas. How about all the boomers hitting retirement that are loosing their nest eggs?

What about the Christian family trying to raise the kids in a world where they put cat boxes in the bathroom for kids that pretend to be an animal, and where a Supreme Court nomination can't manage to define what a woman is but some how can interpret the law.

Rolling black outs because the grid is under to much strain and not enough capacity while the government tries to shut down coal power plants and push electric cars. You know reduce capacity and increase demand. What will be the result?

Your right not a thing to be concerned about at all. Everything is wonderful and the country is doing great everyone will be thriving and happy. Especially once they get thir free crack pipes.

How to create a social state by Saul Alinsky:

There are eight levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state. The first is the most important.

Healthcare– Control healthcare and you control the people

Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty
.
Gun Control– Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state.

Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income)

Education – Take control of what people read and listen to – take control of what children learn in school.

Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools

Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

Being positive is nice and all but if its not about working towards some kind of way to improve your own situation or your communities, it just puts off the nervous breakdown.

I think this country may be in trouble (I hope I'm wrong and based off past performance I sure could be).. but on a personal level I enjoy life probably more than I ever have. If things go off the rails I'm somewhat prepared and can live poor probably better than some. It's the simple things in life that bring me joy.

All the yapping and crying about the state of the country solves NOTHING.
If you really want change it takes ACTION.

If going to your day job is more important than taking action - well - just keep on yapping and crying.

I agree. Not worried about myself, everything paid for, decent savings, enough equipment to make money anytime I want.
I'm worried about my kids and grandkids. I've lived a good life, I hope they can too.

Back in the late 1700's to early 1800's this Country was more drunk than it was sober. Some sources figure the average consumption of whiskey was close to a gallon a week per adult capita. On top of that just imagine the abuse of both women and children that probably took place because of that.

The second "Great Awakening" of the early to mid 1800's put this Country on the right track that it has been on until recently (mid 1960's).

There have actually been worse times than now, and these times will probably get worse. I'm not overly concerned, There is a natural component that will always assure the the ship will right itself.
Maybe not when and how we would like it to; but it's a sure as the law of gravity; truth will prevail.

I agree with most of your post. You have lost me on this one. I don't understand the point you are trying to make.
Should we all get drunk and ride it out?

Amen! No matter how bad it gets in 10 lifetimes, we have - hands down - the best country on earth. It’s tough to remember sometimes.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is two-fold.

Things have been worse in the past, yes many things in our society are bad, but there are also good things going on. We are not anywhere close to being Sodom and Gomorrah.

The only thing that I am aware of in the past that has pulled a society up out of the pit is a Spiritual awakening.

Alcohol consuption is just another part of our beloved western European culture that has been going the way of the dodo.
being replaced by the afro/muzlim drug culture.
