Just curious for y'all specific needs ( as in each on of you individually ) if you had to go fixed power with an optic what would you go with ? I'm asking because my long range gun actually has a fixed power SWFA Super Sniper in 6x. Thing tracks like a dream and honestly out to 400yd ( as long as I can shoot most places here) I can make impacts on just about anything I want. That being said a this SWFA 6x is like a 12-14x in other scops I looked at side by side and I think a 10-or 12 would be perfect for me next.
Anyhow just curious

All 3 of my "long range" steel shooting rigs wear straight 12x SWFA scopes with the mil-quad reticles. A 243, a 308 Winchester and a 6.5 Grendel AR. I've ran all 3 out to 1200 at BangSteel, and as you said, they track, return to zero and are tough as can be. Hard to beat for the money and out perform a lot of scopes costing a lot more money.

Why would you limit yourself with a FX powered scope? Variable is much better!!!

Depends in what regard.

Just saying for $300 your not going to find a variable optic that's as rugged and TRACKS as well as a SWFA. Also if you like to range with your reticle you don't don't have to worry about setting it to the right power if it's a second focal plane .

Variable power scopes have a place, without a doubt, but in the steel banging / PRS game, unless it's a first focal plane scope, it can bite you on "reading" the impact and making adjustments on the fly. Some of our matches have targets from 400 to 1200 yards, not in sequence. In other words, target 1 is at 725, target 2 is at 850, 3 is at 440, 4 is at 665, and 5 is at 1200, 3 to 4 shots per target, to be shot in that order. Sometimes it's one shot per target, then back through the sequence for a total of 3 shots per, all in a time of 4 minutes or less. No time to be fiddling with Variable power ring, ust dial for elevation and hold for wind. A scope that dials / tracks correctly is a necessity, none of that make an adjustment and beat on the turret crap that I see a lot of guys do, especially Leupold shooters. I'll give up being able to adjust magnification for reliable tracking any day, all day.

On a hunting rifle how by often do you change the magnification anyway? I like a 6 power. Less stuff moving less stuff to fail. I like a rifle to be equipped with iron sights also. Drop your rifle and bust the scope you can take it off and still be hunting. Hard to buy a high power now with factory iron.
