Incidentally, the USDA world pear collection is just down the road from me. You can get cuttings of any variety in the collection for free. I hadn’t heard of that, I may have to check it out

Blue Hill Wildlife Nursery. Selinsgrove, Pa I’ve bought from them. Good trees. Great descriptions on their site. The owner did a class for the Pa. forestry dept in potter county. I hear it was really good and the guy knows his stuff about grafting.

Beaverpeeler, their website says they only supply scion wood for education and research, not for the home gardener

Beaverpeeler, their website says they only supply scion wood for education and research, not for the home gardener Are you not doing research to see how certain varieties do in your climate? You just need to ask and they don't quiz you on your purposes. I have both contributed varietals and picked up new strains for our farm. I was always clear what my intents were which was to see if a variety would do well for me in my circumstances.

I've planted a lot of bare root trees but I can never seem to find bare root apple trees. Maybe I've shopped in the wrong places. Are bare root apple trees rare? The stuff I got shipped to me as a dry bare root, only about half come back alive

don't have much of a variety but all counties have a tree sale in early spring. I have gotten bare root apples from my county. Not all counties carry the same tree species and all are bare root. The prices usually are around $1-2/tree depending upon specie.
I wish my county sold trees.
