So I'm going to be buying a 2017 Troybilt Pony riding mower in Arkansas next week. It's been sitting for a few years and I'd like to take a new battery with me since it's 30 miles out of town. Problem is, the new mowers have a small battery, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches while by application the 2017 takes a much bigger battery. Is anyone familiar with the mowers and if they did a switcheroo on battery dimensions between 2017 and now???

What engine does it have? The neighbors troybilt riding mower is sitting in the garage @ home. What size of deck does it have?

I don't have a clue if Troy Built or Murray ever called a lawn mower a pony they did call a smaller roto tiller a pony that would take the smaller battery you are asking about.

I cannot speak for newer troy built ponies, but my older model uses a U1-1 sized battery. Mine has been a tank pushing 20 years old and from what I read the early 2000 models like mine were meant to be disposables lasting 5 years or so. I have had to work on mine a bit but its still going.

Most modern TroyBilt stuff is manufacturered by MTD with TroyBilt licenced name added.

Lower quality than stuff made years ago made by TroyBilt , hence make it cheaper and cheaper with a smaller battery.

The neighbors troybilt bronco with a 46 inch deck takes a diehard U1-3 battery with 340 cold cranking amps. Don't know if this helps @ all.

I need dimensions. Not any Xtra room at all. I'll take a comealong and jumper cables just to cover all bases.

I had one for a long time biggest problem was deck, bearings. getting worn then eating deck belts. Never a problem with motor. old243
