we see a lot of people drive 2-3 T posts on the approach side of the mail box , they wire or U bolt a 2-3 foot by 4 foot piece of plywood to the posts and toss some reflectors and the house number on it
that way the wall of snow coming off the plow doesn't take the mail box out either.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Ours got knocked one time, breaking the post it was on. I did the best, fast, temporary fix I could think of, and set the box on the seat of an old kitchen stool to buy some time to install it properly. The next morning I looked out and it was down again, well into the ditch. The next evening, after dark I stood everything back up again but added 3 concrete blocks on the steps and rungs of the kitchen stool. Sure enough, the next morning everything was down again and the concrete blocks had large streaks of metallic blue paint all over them and the frame of the stool was bent.
Mounted the box on a treated 4X4 imbedded in a 5 gallon bucket filled with concrete buried in the dirt.
Never had my mailbox vandalized again.
Moosetrot I figured you lived down here when the Preacher's son went around and plowed over a bunch of them with a car. Him and his buddy ended up replacing 50 or 60 of them.

Used to have that trouble strangely at easter Guess they grew up an got there own mailbox Or discovered dead-end roads weren't that much fun

Federal offense I believe Would not count on any level of law enforcement to do much about it unless you can catch them red handed Had one stolen, had pictures with clear plate numbers. Postal people would not even return call, deputy sheriff went by their house 3 times and they either were not home or did not answer the door and after 3 attempts "we have done all we can do" was their response You are liable if someone hits a "fortified" one and gets injured Sounds about right! Not very sexy or career enhancing. One of those "Posse Comatatus deals. Doesn't anybody just shoot the crap out of them anymore?

You definitely shouldn’t build your mailbox to be immovable if it sits in the ROW. If someone crashes into it you’ll be liable for the excess damage, and if they hit it hard and it’s determined that your overbuilt mailbox caused injuries or death, you’re on the hook for that too. You might even be looking at manslaughter charges.

But it's hard to argue against him currently being on a wrong path.

worked with a guy in 1974 on towboat that spent 6 months in federal pen because him and his buddies smashed 120 boxes and got caught We had 2 guys smashing mail boxes in high school. Sheriff caught them and said jail or replace every mailbox you smashed. They spent the better part of the summer replacing all the boxes.

Back when I was 16 and 17, Growing up in Flint Mi.Buick city. Our Saturday cruiser was a 1971 Buick Duece and 1/4, thats what the brothers called the Electra 225! 4 doors 455 engine 5000+ pounds. 8 of us boys could pile in. We could take out a street full of mailboxes and never knock the headlights out of aim! Once it got good and dark we just pulled up opened the mail box lit a M-80 tossed it to the back slam the door shut and go! The toughest mailbox would look like a half peeled banana after the bang!! I would say i'ts a good thing we knew nothing of Tannerite back then!

Cops around here would like to catch them. I doubt the Post Office cares much. Believe it or not, they caught 'em. 1 of the victims got trail cam photos, which Crimestoppers posted to facebook, & someone was able to ID them. I told the Crimstoppers lady they should make an example out of them in the local paper, but for whatever reason she didn't like my idea.
