Fifty years ago this week Hurricane Anges hit the east coast of the US Once it made landfall it moved slowly north dumping water as it went PA ended up getting about 15 inches of rain over a 3 to 4 day time period From north to south the Susquehanna River drainage received some of the worst flooding in recorded history About 100 people died as a result of it .At the time it was said to be the storm of a lifetime .Just 3 years later another flooding hurricane hit the area that was as bad or worse .I had just graduated from high school and started a new job.It was a natural disaster that affect many peoples lives forever

I lived near Wilkes-Barre at the time and remember this vividly.

Luckily our house was on a SMALL hill.
Looked like an island.
100 yds away, water was almost up to the handlebars on my bike.

I remember that summer, rained all the time. We played most of our baseball games in the rain and did not get hay in till September. I remember the stories of caskets floating down the Susquehanna that were scoured from cemeteries.

I remember it well, living beside the Juniata river. We had 9' in our house.
