A 37-year-old Ogilvie man was killed Friday, June 17, in a single-vehicle crash on Fish Lake Drive south of Bachelor Road.
According to a news release from Kanabec County Sheriff Brian Smith, Brandon Wesley Houtsma was driving north in a pickup truck, when he left the roadway on the west side of the road at a high rate of speed. The pickup struck a tree, breaking it and then struck another tree, bringing the pickup to a stop. The vehicle was heavily damaged.
Kanabec County deputies responded to the accident at 11:41 p.m. and found Houtsma behind the wheel. The deputies removed Houtsma from the pickup to start first aid and were soon assisted by medics from Welia Ambulance, who were unable to get a pulse.
Houtsma was a sixth-grade math teacher at Cambridge-Isanti Middle School. He is survived by his wife Kailyn and three children.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Houtsma Family,” Sheriff Smith said in the news release
