I texted the pic to a buddy of mine and he just got back with me. He said he thinks it's a tobacco knife. yes, tobacco knife. Used to cut the base of the stalk prior to spiking as well as splitting the stalk from top to bottom and then cut the base of the stalk if being used to harvest dark fired tobacco (old school).

Thanks Staner. It makes sense because I got that from my Aunt probably 30 years ago and they grew tobacco. I forgot I had it.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I've harvested a lot of tobacco and we never used anything like that to cut It down. We used a knife with a long curved blade that you would swing to make the cut.

it was best used to split the stalk for the dark fired tobacco... if one was only going to cut it off at the base of the plant (air-cured or burley) then a machete-type chopping tool was much better.

Floor manure scraper for the trough behind the milking cows i have one just like it ,i was told it was for striping tobacco should still have some odour in the wooden handle then Git your mind outa the gutter.

Bark removing tool comes to mind, I guess it could have a lot of different uses. It sure sounds like it was intended to be used as a tobacco knife, but, i just might make one for removing bark.
Man who mistake shillelagh for fairy wand; see pixie dust, also.
