for that 308 Ultra light that price is about what you will see them listed for .My one brother had one of them for a while It was a great gun to hunt with because it we SO nice to carry .It shoot good and he was a good shot with it .It probably sold for about $450.00 new in the mid 1980's .For some reason the Ruger M77 became a more popular gun to collect over the last couple years

I wanted a Ruger 280 really bad a few years ago and never could find one. Then, as luck would have it, I saw 2 brand new ones in a local gun store. Ruger had not chambered that caliber for several years so I had no idea where they came from. I bought one, and believe it or not, it wouldn't shoot. After trying several factory loads and several handloads, I ended up sending it down the road. I was so disappointed!

My 264 Win Mag was that way until I bedded the auction and tried a couple dozen hand loads. She shoots like a dream now.

Over my hunting career I had a few Ruger M77,s I am a left hander shooting a right handed bolt action gun while I missed more than I care to admit it was 100 % shooter error .Everyone I ever had would shoot as good as I was able to shoot it off hand at .I may not have shoot many .5 inch groups at the range but I did OK when it was time to attempt to shoot a deer .And I never did not get a deer because I did not fire enough shoots at it

Right after I got this gun I went to a buddies with a shooting range set up. Not sure what kind of rest it was but you just set your gun in it and move the dials horizontally and vertically to get the scope lined up with the target.
First shot was a bullseye. Second shot my buddy said “Miss” I was like no way! Next shot he said “Miss” Something wasn’t right. While we were checking the ammo, scope, and mounts my other buddy walked down to the target. We knew something wasn’t right when he started walking back with the target. Turns out I had a cloverleaf hole dead center of the target that could be covered with a dime.
When someone wants to borrow a gun for hunting, that’s the gun they get because I know if something goes wrong it’s on them and not the gun.
