So alot of you guys and gals saw my last post about getting my daughter a horse, well I have been looking at horse trailers and wow are they high. What kind of trailers are you guys pulling and how much money should a guy expect to spend on a decent used 3 horse gooseneck?

My wife has an aluminum 3 horse dressing room/ tack room in front and small tack room/saddle rack in back she's talked about selling. Not been used much but has a little age. I can ask her what she's thinking on price. I'm guessing 10k give or take a few but don't hold me to it until I talk to her. I've took it on vacations a time or to and stayed in it. Take care of it and you could probably get ur $ back or more whenever you decide to sell it the way things are increasing in price.

There's a website called ranch world ads that has used trailers for sake. Might be of help.

Trailers are high right now. I have a two horse slant bumper pull I can get more than I paid new for. I also have a 3 horse sleeping quarters trailer. They are bringing at least $20,000. If you want new I would look at a Calico. Good trailer that will not break the bank. Other wise there are some Facebook groups for trailers. Good luck!

I used a 12 foot aluminum stock trailer. As long as you don't need a living quarters that is what I would recommend. If you are only going trail riding or gaming the trailer won't matter much, but if she starts showing western pleasure or especially english the other competitors are likely to look down on her for using a stock trailer. At least that has been my observation. The best way to remedy that is to beat them in the show ring.

Any reason behind the trailer choice? A 2 horse bumper pull slant load is more then enough for 1 horse or even a couple of cows.

You will need to decide if you want a ramp load or step up trailer.

I like sliding doors vs swinging . Ramps are nice after you don't have to worry about one get it's leg brok getting under the trailer.

I never bought a horse trailer because I used wisdom before hand and never got a horse eek

It seems to me - horse folks gotta have fancy things.........fancy boots, hats, clothes, saddles, trailers, trucks, fancy hay and an expensive vet

Only once did I ever think a horse might have helped me get my cows sorted out of my neighbors cows. But, I used a $3 bucket with some grain and walked in the herd and sorted them on foot and my cows followed me out.............I almost repented for thinking I might have needed a horse.

I would just say go find some horse folks and buy one of their trailers - they always gotta have the newest fancy trailers.......

I had to laugh at some neighbors - went and bought a fancy horse trailer - then they had to buy a bigger truck to pull it cause their 2 year old truck wasnt big enough - I am serious on this one.

If she’s gonna chase cans, just make sure it’s a sleeper and the sleeper portion is trimmed in mahogany and smells of rich leather bound books!

In fact, I think it’s a requirement that can chaser trailers must be nicer than the house they live in.

Now that is what I'm talking about. That looks just about right. Good pointer on asking a ferrier.

What are you wanting to do with it? Day trips? Weekends at the trail head? Do you need the luxuries of home or are you good with roughing it? If your dead set on a gooseneck that will hold three horses and don't mind roughing it a bit I would look at a stock/ stock combo trailer. The combo will get you a small tack room in the front that can be converted into a small living quarters with little work. That will be the best bang for your buck if you don't care about fancy frills and comfort. That's what my wife and I did to the front tack on our horse trailer, it works well for us but we are used to sleeping in a tent out in the woods. The more activities you can use it for the more affordable it becomes in my opinion. We use ours not only for horses, but haul dirt bikes in to go bike camping, hauled a fishing boat to go camping, hauled goats home that we bought, winter storage for outdoor furniture, etc. Get creative Even took our two month old daughter to the trapping convention in it last summer. We paid $6000 for it back in 2019 which for what it was seemed like a steal. Lots of junk out there. Whatever you buy, put GOOD tires on it. Last thing you want to be doing is changing tires on the side of the road with a trailer full of jacked up horses after a tire blows. [Linked Image]
